Fourteen stitches and didn't "bleed out"

I was just thinking that Dick's post should escalate the danger rating of Golf from 4/100 to 30/100 ;)

Be honest: can I do this?

    Wooohoooo. Great job!!!!

    Coumadin Long Term

Lots of good advice on here already. Coumadin is no biggy for most with somewhat consistent schedules and routines. If you are used to taking multi-vitamin every day and if you are eating healthy-ish, it is generally a non-issue.

    Introductions, questions, frustrations ....

Welcome Coach. Get it done in late Feb or early March and you will be coaching in full force around June. Just takes some work and effort. I had my surgery in late March and was training for a competition pretty heavily about 10-12 weeks later.

Getting a good blood drop for those that self test

Good point protime, I find that if I am doing something active before the test the blood flows very well too. BTW, I know you meant 15 seconds ;)

    Ascending Aorta

Since I put my aorta under lots of stress and want to avoid repeat surgeries as much as possible, my surgeon replaced my ascending aorta up to hemi-arch with a graft and reinforced my aortic root with a felt as root appeared within needed range.

6.5 week post OHS bike ride

Yeah buddy!!!! This is some very good progress at 6 weeks. You are already running/jogging better than me at that time. ;)

Innacurate Echo leads to unnecessary scans/high bills...what would you do?

On one hand you should be glad that the echo was wrong and now you have some really accurate MRA scans which can be used for more detailed overview of your heart and arteries, on the other hand $4300 is whole lot of moneys and if you did not absolutely have to spend it why did you have to. I...

GymGuy 22-months update - Powerlifting, 10k runs and other fun stuff

@pellicle, Spot on, mate! @steve e, you and many others totally get my purpose ;) @tirone, you are not that far from where I live. Take a trip down here and we will train together for a day. At this point in your recovery, I think we would be speed interval walking together, and bodyweight...

    Back to the waiting room

You are relatively young so to speak, and I am sorry this valve did not last you longer. A redo is a redo. Was going to happen at some point in your life, eh, might as well get it over with when you must. If you do your redo in Innova, VA and feel like having visitors, I will make sure to...

INR testing with different medical insurance.

Gary, You can buy your tester on ebay and buy strips on Ebay too. It was cheaper for me to go that way with out of pocket than via insurance. I used my tester at the same time as several blood draws to compare the numbers. Was within .1 both times.

GymGuy 22-months update - Powerlifting, 10k runs and other fun stuff

Thanks to all for kind words. You know, I come here to emphasize normalcy and make sure it propagates ;) Ha! Those races do sound enticing. I would love to do another 5-10k in the near term. Both of these are pretty far from DC area, which is where I am at. Would love to hangout with you...

INR testing with different medical insurance.

Hey bocco!!!! Not sure what you paid out of pocket to Keiser, however, have you considered self-testing at home. I pay less than $5 per strip and self-test weekly.

GymGuy 22-months update - Powerlifting, 10k runs and other fun stuff

No, we are not. Though, after doing the 10k, in sub-zero temps (it was 27F, when I ran) I decided to do another one in the spring when its nice and pretty out and then maybe a half-marathon in a year or two. Even though all the training sucked, as hard as it is to admit, it was kind of fun and...

    Metoprolol. 50mg

OldManEmu, I hear ya and agree. There are always worse things to be on. You are right, other feeling a bit sluggish metoprolol did not have many other side effects and really kept the heart rate in check.

When is it time to worry about hitting your head?

I am with ski girl, these sounds like light bumps. If you feel concerned call your doc. Also, stop hitting your head, the voices are not going anywhere.

BAV patients who end up with aortic graph

When I first met with my surgeon and we discussed BAV, and a bit of aneurysm on my ascending aorta he did tell me that there was a genetic connection between BAV and weakened aortic tissue. I think elsewhere on this board there are posts with more details and links to sites like NIH, etc. I...

More gym goodness - 8 week update

Just checking in. @Julian, yes the gym in the video in previous post is my gym in my basement. @Garserin, 100% Raw is an organization http://www.rawpowerlifting.com which means no assistive equipment and no drugs. Also, in August, I finally got my 2 sets of 50 reps with 100lb Kettlebell -...

GymGuy 22-months update - Powerlifting, 10k runs and other fun stuff

I have been visiting here sporadically, but completely forgot to update you guys on some huge accomplishments (for me) that I've achieved in the past 3-4 months. First, and most importantly, I see the everyone is doing relatively well, and old-timers are still helping out the newbs and others...
