    Awake and recovering

Yeah, my sense of taste was way off after the surgery, pretty much whole time I was in the hospital. I think at one point I even complained to the kitchen about the food tasting weird. I think in the end it turned out to be me though, eventually got back to normal after I got home.

    Awake and recovering

I've told my hosptial worst pain story a couple times up here so am not gonna repeat it (although it is rather funny the way I tell it), but will just say it had to do with the catheter. OMG. Hurts just thinking about it.

And don't 4get Spock's attitude toward pain: Pain is a thing of the mind. The mind can be controlled. A lot easier for Vulcans than human methinks though.

Yeah I can't remember the actual menu options I was allowed to choose from but it was a special heart healthy thing that wasn't very appealing. I kind of remember when placing my orders with the kitchen (the hospital had us call down ourselves) asking for this or that but in every case it was...

They will be urging you to do just that, I think as soon as most (all?) of the tubes come out. I still had an IV but once the catheter and chest tubes were gone they had me going on hospital hallway walks multiple times a day (including stairs pretty quick too).

Amazing you are going back to work so fast D (like a week after the surgery?). I understand you say it is not a physically tough job, just working from home remotely but still....Your body has been through a big trauma and it may want to just lie (or rather sit since lying down can be really...

Wow, I had not idea about Da Vinci. Always thought that was his last name...just caused a spike in my INR!

Interesting. I assumed they do them all like mine, get it out of there as fast as possible. I recall he kind of wrapped them around his hand then snapped them out like a whip (?). Maybe mine were in there real tight or something like that. And I think he did two at once and the last one by...

    Emergency Information on phone

I hate cellphones and although I have a smartphone I do not carry it on my person and sometimes go months without even turning it on. Yeah, I'm old and old school. I have a medical ID thing that I keep on my keychain with info about heart patient and contact Dr #s. I need to update it though...

    Activity Time Lines

[Only had one surgery so far but..] A) Think it was something like 6 or 7 weeks b4 I could drive. I 4get exactly other than it was longer than I would have liked but had too much chest pain to do it sooner. B) Haven't played golf in over 30 years and never with a golf cart so can't answer...

    3 potential choices

I think maybe that sentence should read like this: On-X mechanical valve, which he said he also uses often, but SOME patients complain of loud ticking. How many make up that "SOME" amount though? 1%? 10%? 50%? What? Because without it that statement means ALL patients complain...

All the best. From reading your posts up here all these years you sound like a trooper and will do fine!

    Awake and recovering

Mine were pretty painful coming out & I was doped up at the same time in advance. I had three tubes. Can't recall exactly but think two were pulled out at once and the third on its own. If I remember the story right the cardiologist assistant guy told me either the day b4 or earlier in the...

    Awake and recovering

I remember my first shower after my surgery. Actually it went something like this - the nurse hosed me down rather than my being able to take a shower on my own.. That's awesome! Wish someone did that for me when I was in there. Coulda used a Philly cheesesteak & fries. Best of luck...

    Hello everyone

No need to lose any sleep over having a bicuspid (aortic?) valve. Many people do fine with that for years and years and years. I only had mine replaced in my 50's because I had clogged arteries and they noticed my aortic valve had "moderate" calicification so they decided to give me a new...

    Cold all the time.

I lost about 20 pounds during my hospital stay but I put it back on in about 3 months. I wasn't just a AVR patient though, I also had a heart attack and double bypass at the same time (which led to them also replacing my aortic valve). Think I was in the hospital about 2 weeks but don't recall...

Did I sell out? Not exactly

I have a meter. Bought one last June when I terminated my service through Cardionet/Biotel/Philips/etc. Interestingly I've been stable for about 10 years now after the 1st couple months of needing doseage finetuning. Last time I had to make a change was about 1-2 years ago when I had covid &...
