Mechanical Ticking - When is it louder and (side) sleeping

If this turns out to be my 'sound outcome' I'd be thrilled. This would be an added bonus I guess

    Exercise and Tissue Valve

Yes, if I go the route of mechanical valve, which looks likely, there is no question that I will be looking to manage my own INR with a coaguchek. Would be happy for some help with that if/when the time comes

    Exercise and Tissue Valve

Yeah I've discussed both these options with my surgeon. She didn't feel great about either of them and I trust her. For me it came down to Ross vs Mechanical. Due to having aortic insufficiency and a pretty dilated annulus she felt mechanical would be safer short term and more durable long term...

Mechanical Ticking - When is it louder and (side) sleeping

Hi everybody. I'm 39/m with BAV from birth. Recently I crossed into severe AI. It's time for surgery, and I've been debating between Ross and Mechanical (Bentall). Due to having AI and a pretty dilated annulus, I am leaning towards mechanical. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any research of...

    Not doing surgery

My echos were also very ambiguous and inconsistent. It wasn't until I got my MRI, 1 year after a suspicious echo, that is was more or less confirmed that I had crossed into severe AI and surgery was definitively on the horizon. I'd try to move that MRI up a bit (call weekly for cancelations) and...

Need Help Choosing! 14 Questions For Those With Mechanical Valve + Warfarin

It would in fact be a Bentall. My ascending aorta is at about 45cm, so they want to be aggressive in order to prevent an aneurysm from developing down the road

Need Help Choosing! 14 Questions For Those With Mechanical Valve + Warfarin

I completely agree with everything here. If I had stenosis and a smaller annulus (mine is about 29-33 depending on if you believe echo or CT) I would probably go with the data, go for a Ross with an experienced surgeon of course, and feel good about getting 20+ good quality, no clicking, no ACT...

    Exercise and Tissue Valve

FWIW I was also told by my surgeon, who is a top notch and well-known surgeon in Canada that once you get to your third, surgeries become increasingly dangerous and more complicated. For this reason, at 39, I am likely to choose mechnical over Ross

Smartwatch / Wearable for Heart recommendations

So seems like steps and heart rate seem to be the most important The Vivosmart (5 now) seems like a pretty good option, but the Fitbit Charge has a nicer color display , and EKG ability, which seems like it might be helpful after surgery. I would go with the Charge if not Fitbit being gross...

What is a good watch/ wearable to measure heart rate and heart rate variability?

This looks like a great option, but I'm a bit turned off by the fact that historical data is paywalled. Did you sign up for fitbit premium as well? If yes, worth it? If not, was the weekly data good enough?

Smartwatch / Wearable for Heart recommendations

Thank you everyone for the recommendations! I'd say I'm about 2 months away from surgery, so the thing is, I'm not really sure what I should be monitoring. Not after surgery, nor before surgery to establish a baseline. I guess heart rate at rest and exercise would be important? Maybe the ability...

Smartwatch / Wearable for Heart recommendations

Hi Everyone, My surgery is coming up in the next few months, so I thought it might be prudent to buy at a smart watch that can help me be aware of my heart, especially after surgery. What features should I be looking for, and does anyone have any suggestions for a good watch or wearable? I...

I'd love to speak with you about the Ross if you would be up for it. I'd also love to speak with @spartangator if you're still around

Need Help Choosing! 14 Questions For Those With Mechanical Valve + Warfarin

This is actually really helpful to know. I had no idea that was possible and that the quantity of your food (or not eating at all I guess?) could have that effect

Need Help Choosing! 14 Questions For Those With Mechanical Valve + Warfarin

The clicking kinda worries me. I sleep on my side with my head/ear on a pillow. Maybe white noise, rain, or sleeping while hugging / smothering a pillow would help? I've read tons of articles from David and Sievers. I've read articles that state they'd do a ross for patients whose annuluses...

Need Help Choosing! 14 Questions For Those With Mechanical Valve + Warfarin

Thank you everyone so far for your answers so far! So so appreciated I wouldn't say bent on it, but I think it's fair to say that there are disadvantages to being on Warfarin. The question is (and what I'm trying to get a feel of) is whether they are worth trying to avoid at the risk of more...

Need Help Choosing! 10 Questions For Those Who Had A Ross Procedure

Hi everyone. Long time lurker, but now things have gotten real. I have crossed into severe aortic regurgitation and will need a surgery that replaces the aortic valve and likely part of the aorta as well (bentall) As seems quite common, I am having the Ross vs mechanical debate in my head...
