Blood Thinners (and why they aren't)

This is really cool. Now the question becomes “how to bloodlet safely?” Looks like people on warfarin can’t give blood (here in the USA).

Mechanical Valve Noise and Quality of Life Study

I can feel mine on a REALLY deep breath too. I imagine it’s because a deep breath compresses everything in there and creates a situation where the valve can reverberate through all of that tissue.

Neuropathic chest pain after aortic valve replacement via minithoracotomy! Any clues?

Thanks pellicle for drawing my attention to this. Unfortunately, I can’t help too much. I never had “numbness, tingling, and shooting pain) around the incision site”. My full sternotomy incision wasn’t numb or painful. In fact, I never took a single painkiller after day 3 in the hospital. I...

    Replacement in 2 weeks

I have an On-X and would NEVER use that lower INR range. Ever. Knowing what I know now, I wish I would have chosen a St. Jude’s valve. Don’t get me wrong - I am not saying anything negative about On-X. I’m sure it’s just fine. I just don’t appreciate the marketing and the company name changes …...

Need Help Choosing! 14 Questions For Those With Mechanical Valve + Warfarin

50 6 months My birth valve: Bicuspid Aortic Valve. Monitored closely for the last couple of years. Finally traversed into the severe category on all things. I still had 0 real symptoms but jumped in to get it done. Recent studies show that the best outcomes are with people who get the...

    Evaluated for TAVR Tomorrow

I really like a lot of what Chuck and pellicle said above. I wanted to highlight a particular comment … “there might come a time when you regret getting a band aid procedure of sorts, in order to get back to biking a little sooner.” I appreciate this comment because it acknowledges a line of...

    Evaluated for TAVR Tomorrow

Just my very very humble thought … You’re in GREAT shape. I truly don’t know of any other 70yr olds that bike on average 11 miles a day … ever day. I’m sure it’s more like 25 one day and then something else another day. But still - you’re rocking it. If you get a TAVR, you’ll need another...

Good luck and God Bless for tomorrow. Before you know it you’ll be on the other side. And before you know it you’ll be walking a mile. Then 2. You got this mate!

    'per patient year' question

2 e’s mate. Two! Cheerios! 😂🤣 And yes, I had them this AM. 2 cups of cheerios, sliced banana, and … almond milk. (Ducks. Runs for cover at the suggestion of using Almond “milk”)

Greetings from Virginia - aortic valve replacement in my future

Greetings Dave from Virginia! I'm Tim from Maryland, lol. I just made the following post in another thread and it seems relevant to your post so I am just going to copy/paste ... "Had an On-X stitched in about 6 months ago. Managing my own INR (here in the states). I was worried and concerned...

    'per patient year' question

Had an On-X stitched in about 6 months ago. Managing my own INR (here in the states). I was worried and concerned that my life might change dramatically with Warfarin. It hasn't changed much at all 🥳. I still lift weights, run, drink, work on my vehicles, do housework up on ladders, go...

    Surgery this Friday

Welcome Adamlee! I’m more of a “new guy” around here (5 months post operation). I can definitely tell you that you’ve come to the right place. This forum is awesome. Lots of advice, help, support, etc. I was worried and anxious going into the operation too. Why? Because it’s a huge deal...

Mechanical Valve Noise and Quality of Life Study

@TeresaUK - Thanks so much for sharing your experience for others to read. I think it’s really great to hear experiences from those who are affected by noises like that and where you are now. Super happy that you got past it.

Targets ... where do you shoot (and why)?

I do #2 My target is 2.7528900132. As you can tell, I am a tinkerer. I mod stuff. I like playing around. I like learning (and for me playing around causes learning). I received my Warfarin 101 class from @pellicle. I think he probably teaches the Warfarin 503 class too ;). I test 1-2...

Targets ... where do you shoot (and why)?

How often are you testing now Chuck? Curious if you're testing more than once a week because of the training concern.

    Bad Back after surgery

I had the same. What I have found was twofold ... 1) Getting back into my previous exercise routine has truly helped. 2) Sleeping on my side again has also truly helped.

PROSE trial results show ON-X and St Jude Equal performance

For sure Chuck. I am just doing a personal, opinionated extrapolated conclusion (yes, I just made up that fancy phrase, lol). I just don't see the reason to stab a bulky mech valve into a place where a more sleek and streamlined valve can get the same work done in the same manner with the same...

Mechanical Valve Noise and Quality of Life Study

Just to confirm some things other people have said ... Earplugs are a big no. It just amplifies what is going on IN your body. This only matters during sleep. Doesn't matter at all when going target shooting or exercising with your in-ear earbuds music playing, etc. Sleeping on one side is...

PROSE trial results show ON-X and St Jude Equal performance

Given the On-X that is in me, this study makes me happy. That said - I think it’s a great study in favor of the St. Jude valve. Why? The St. Jude has been around longer, with more data, AND it is significantly smaller in size. Bigger valve onto the same area without having to do an aortic...

AVR a week from Today, Yikes

Hey Brotha! Soon you will be in the mech valve club with the rest of us :). Yes, it's scary. But you will be good! I just had mine 5 months ago. This forum has been AMAZING. Lots of support, help, etc. FWIW, I had a full sternotomy and I am back to running, lifting weights, shooting...
