    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

@Spookygal For some reason a previous post I made in another thread popped into my head this AM when I woke up this morning. I wanted to give you a link to it. My post is post #6 https://www.valvereplacement.org/threads/first-surgery-coming-up-and-afraid.889198/#post-926007

Availability of CoaguChek XS strips on eBay

The company selfcaredepot appears to be in it for the long haul. I’ve just exchanged messages back and forth with them and they indicated that they have a good supply that is reliable. They have great expiration dates, etc. So I’ll be keeping them on my shortlist and checking in with them from...

Availability of CoaguChek XS strips on eBay

Wow. This is bad news. If eBay stops allowing these then the other sellers are going to have high demand and not enough supply. Higher prices and a potential to run out before finding a new box is potentially our future. I guess I need to figure out how to get these through the proper channels...

My follow up scans didn’t go as planned

It’s difficult to hear you need major surgery. I know exactly how that feels so you’re in the right place for sure. From the moment I was told that I had a BAV to the moment I was told I needed surgery was a little over 2 years. This was after being told that I could potentially live with my...

Aspirin meta-analysis study (focus on bleeds and cancer)

Truly great video on Aspirin. Very valuable. The discussion on statins is also super valuable. I rejected being on them for years. My LDL and my total have always been off the charts. Even with a perfect diet I am at the max limit (which is still too much). Finally accepted statins about 6...

    Powerlifting

Since this post has some traction - even after 5 years, I'd like to share my experience. I love coming to this forum to hear all of the amazing success stories. But, it wouldn't be accurate to have only those :) Let me start by saying that I am not, nor was I ever, a competitive power lifter...

On-x valve, what medications are you on post surgery?

A friend sent me this video. If you’re worried about the safety of aspirin, watch the first 30 min or so if this video. It’s safer than people think.

Just got offered https://corcym.com/devices/aortic/US/perceval tissue valve

Given the history of this particular individual, I do believe that Superman offered the best advice.

I'm Being Referred to a Surgeon...

Dental health is connected to heart health. Us OHS people need to practice good dental health: brushing of course. But also ... floss regularly dentist every 6 months for a cleaning waterpik a couple times a week to get what the flossing can't consider swishing your mouth with some Listerine...

    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

I would love to hear exactly what you take and how much. I have an On-X Aortic valve that replaced my severely stenotic bicuspid valve. I’m currently taking a combo of K1, K2, and D3 … along with CoQ10 and other stuff like Magnesium and a Multi (along with my prescription meds). Doing what I...

    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

What hevishot above failed to see is that you pointed out that your surgeon said that a mechanical valve was not an option. So - the conversation is NOT over. Why? Because you, as the patient, need to understand why. That is supremely important. Everyone here has your best interests at heart...

    Warfarin/coumadin side effects

If only warfarin was the only med I took. As others have said, no issues. It’s the other meds to worry about (IMHO). Once you’re on the “cardiologist radar”, they throw a bunch of different meds at you.

AVR with Replacement of Ascending Aorta and Triple CABG

This is why I chose mechanical too. I was 50 when I got mine. After your open heart surgery is done and you’ve recovered a bit, you’ll say to yourself ‘wow, I’m so happy that I’ve put the odds in my favor for never doing this again’. Will you actually have to do it again? Maybe. But probably...

AVR with Replacement of Ascending Aorta and Triple CABG

I wanted to clear something up after reading Chuck’s reply. There are two people in this thread. Jase, 58 (thread starter) Jim, 51 Jim, who is 51, has elected a tissue valve. Not the recommended choice for that age. Jase, the guy who started this thread is 58 and doesn’t seem to have made a...

Mechanical valves ... but what about the ticking?

I’d like to draw attention to this. Prior to surgery I only slept on my side. Never on my back. You could say that I was a 100% side sleeper. Surgery changed that. I am now a 90% back sleeper. I just can’t sleep on my side like I once did. Maybe it was the couple months of forced back...

Mechanical valves ... but what about the ticking?

I wouldn’t be surprised? Hypnosis seems to have helped a lot of people in this world with things that I wouldn’t have thought possible: Quitting smoking, discovering past lives, etc. I guess you need to be open to suggestion? Not sure. I’ve never been hypnotized.

    Made it through!

I was on fentanyl and the nurses kept pushing the button without my approval. It made me sick and I almost threw up. I yelled at the one nurse for pressing my button and told her that I was going to throw up because it makes me sick. She ran and got something and dosed me and the nausea went...
