    Resting HR post-AVR surgery

I’m feeling fine. I’m happy. I walk about 3 miles a day. And I do a light weight workout. Unfortunately I can’t exercise like I once did. Surgery broke something in me and the doctors have no clue. I’ve accepted it and moved on. Pre-Surgery fitness was running 2 miles 3 times a week. Plus, I...

    Resting HR post-AVR surgery

Mine never returned to pre-survey levels. Surgery was over 2 years ago. I was 58bpm prior to surgery. I’m averaging 66-68bpm now.

    Blood Pressure Differences Between Arms

Right handed. Right arm: 121/79 Left arm: 125/78 This is after being awake for 4 hours … 2 cups of coffee and a full breakfast at a local diner (not normal for me but my son is in town). I’m on Amlodipine Besylate, 5mg. I am currently NOT on Metoprolol, but, for the record, when I have taken...

    TAVR in the works

Welcome! My grandmother had TAVR about 3 years ago. She’s now 90 and doing great. She was “up and about” very quickly after her procedure.

    Titanium Heart Transplant

Super interesting. Sidenote: The patient must carry an 8lb pack that is connected to the artificial heart. The pack contains, among other things, 2 rechargeable batteries providing 5 hours of runtime each. … although you can also plug directly into an outlet. Wow.

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

Hi @workmonkey - Was your MRI with contrast? Probably - but just asking. Do you have a Mech or tissue valve?

    Lifting Weights after Surgery

I don’t think it’s that crazy. Instead of working out 6 days a week (3 upper body and 3 lower body), we reduce that to only 3 days a week. And it’s not 10 sets of the same thing … but it’s 10 sets of different exercises; different muscle groups. So, you get a full body workout. You’re doing at...

    Lifting Weights after Surgery

If you want to avoid setbacks, IMHO, don’t try to lift much at all in the first year … no matter your experience and self-belief. I am experienced, confident, and know my body. I did the right things by going to cardiac rehab and getting approval from doctors. I waited the required 4 months...

    Lifting Weights after Surgery

That’s awesome! FWIW, I also have a long history of heavy weightlifting but things didn’t work out so great for me. At 6 months after surgery I hit my goal of benching 135 super slow, feet off the ground, perfect form (while weighing 165lbs). Prior to surgery I could bench 225, no problem...

    Lifting Weights after Surgery

What sounds horrible to me is not getting the surgery or constantly delaying it for various BS reasons … and then dropping dead one day. But hey, maybe I’m unique in those thoughts 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Lifting Weights after Surgery

Don, Be careful. I had my aortic valve replaced in May 2022. I had a goal of bench pressing 135 for 10 slow reps with perfect form at six months after surgery. I accomplished this. However, I believe that this *may* have contributed to issues that I currently experience to this day. Up until...

    choosing right valve

I can’t tell if this is a serious question since you’ve already asked these questions multiple times 🤷🏻‍♂️. That said, here’s my reply anyhow … In over two years, I haven’t encountered anyone that has provided any negative or disturbing feedback. And that is a heck of a lot of people over the...

    Sprinting?

IMHO, if things are severe, I would suggest walking. Just walk. Walk 2-4 miles a day. Get at least 10,000 steps every day. If you want to do weights, keep it light and keep it slow. Don’t let your heart compensate too much for the bad valve. You don’t want your heart to model off of the bad...

50M, severe regurgitation, confused about symptoms?

I was 50 when I got my aortic valve replaced. I remember being confused as to what the best choice in valve would be. I am so so so so happy I went with a mechanical valve. It was the correct choice for me. It wasn’t until later that I realized HOW correct that choice was. Open heart surgery...

    choosing right valve

100% what pellicle said and then Deidra supported. 1000% Use a pill box. Take it seriously. Set alarms on your phone (and even backup alarms on other devices if you must). In over 2 years with my mechanical valve I have never missed a dose of Warfarin.

    Water filter .

I have had several kidney stones over the course of my life. Apparently citrate is the key to keeping them gone (along with plenty of water). I add the lemon juice specifically for the citrate to help combat kidney stones.

Endurance cyclist much worse after robotic mitral valve repair

I’m rooting for you! Push your doctors. Push them hard. Get every test that is possible. CT study with contrast Echocardiogram study Nuclear Stress Test Maybe even a Transesophogial Echo (aka TEE) Lung Capacity Test Blood Tests Don’t take no for an answer. You deserve better. You know what...

    Water filter .

Consumer Reports reported on Microplastics recently. I was aghast at the high concentration levels for some “healthy” products. Example: Cheerios (the cereal pellicle, not the little wieners, 😂). Cheerios has an ungodly high concentration of microplastics. Seeing that number literally...

    choosing right valve

Thanks for drawing extra attention to this Chuck. Extremely important. Definitely a high stakes “gamble”.

    choosing right valve

I can’t tell ya what’s right for you. But I CAN tell you about me. At 50 I got a mechanical. I’d make the same choice again. However, if I was 67, I’d specifically get the Inspiris Resilia tissue valve and gamble that I could do a TAVR later (if I needed it). The Inspiris Resilia...
