33yo with BAV and severe stenosis

@Spookygal I also wanted to go Ross the first time I was up for OHS. Then a world famous Ross surgeon told me that my aortic root wasnt suitable for the surgery. Others wanted to do it, but I decided to go with his approach. Since then there have been some papers published on what happens after...

33yo with BAV and severe stenosis

Hi Nesphito, Ozaki could be the future of valve repair. The data in older people (65-75) looks very good. But then again most bio valves in older people look fantastic. Data on long-term Ozaki outcomes in your age group is still very scarce. Ozaki could last a long time or not very long at all...

Mental confusion after intense exercise? Anyone experience this with mechanical valve?

I just checked my INR this week (I do every sunday). It was 2.5. Previous reading last sunday was 2.3. It is quite steady for me. So I assume it was somewhere in between. I will exercise more cautiously, but also drink a lot more while exercising

Mental confusion after intense exercise? Anyone experience this with mechanical valve?

I am 43. I spoke to my cardiac rehab trainder today. He said many people experience this if they get dehydrated and if their blood pressure falls too much following exercise. So he said we need to keep monitoring blood pressure to see if that is related and drink water in the mean time while...

Mental confusion after intense exercise? Anyone experience this with mechanical valve?

Hi Everyone, I hope that all of the wise people here can help me with the following. and when I say help, I mean did you experience something like this before? - It seems that after intensive exercise (going at 150bps for 40 minutes on the cross trainer), I now get some degree of mental...

    Thrombosis in bioprosthetics

I had a bio-prosthetic as my first valve. During the eight years, I had two neurological incidents (where I never had any previously). 2nd year after AVR woke up with half of my face numb. Went to hospital. Nothing detected, but I can tell you my face felt very strange for a while. They...

I'm Being Referred to a Surgeon...

I am sorry to hear about your complications. I am no surgeon. and I dont understand the details of your case. However, is the issue is regurgitation, perhaps they could try to repair the tricuspid valve via transcatheter? From the randomised trial below, that seems to be a as good as OHS...

    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

@Teapotimus I found this idea of taking K2 fascinating, but looking at the science, it doesnt seem to show the effect. Could you share your research that does show an effect? https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.121.057008

    Bentall & Freestyle

@V__ For the purpose of helping the 10-15% of others that may be affected, let me describe what happened here. I didnt get these bouts of depression until about 6 months out of recovery every time. The first couple of months went well for me both times, since I was euphoric to have made it...

    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

Hi Sandra, you may want to get a second opinion. I find it strange that your surgeon told you that a mech valve is not an option. Is there a specific physiological reason for that? If you are set on a tissue valve, you may want to ask for the Edwards Inspiris Resilia valve. Apparently it will...

    Bentall & Freestyle

Hi @Wendel, I just read your profile, it says that you have an Aneursym and Aortic insufficiency. But not that you have Aortic stenosis. Have you spoken to any surgeons about Aortic valve repair? This is also called the David procedure. If your valve is insufficient because it is being...

    Bentall & Freestyle

Hi @Wendel, I would like to add one more thing. There is something called cardiac depression (that is the term the surgeon who first operated on me used). Some patients are prone to a bout of depression about 6 month after surgery. I got this after both surgeries. After the first one, after...

Happy new year to you and to everyone on this wonderful forum as well.

    Bentall & Freestyle

I will add a couple of things: - I had a bio-bentall when I was 34. I had the ATS 3F valve, which was apparently a more advanced version of the Free style valve. I was told at least 10 years. IT lasted 8. The surgeon said that the valve wouldnt calcify. It didnt. But one of the leaflets just...

Recently told I need valve replacement but may not be able to take warfarin

Hi Zara, having a baby is an excellent reason to go Tissue valve at your age. But please know that valve technology evolves very slowly, so choosing tissue because you want to benefit from better technology later is not a wise strategy, because there may not be better technology later. It is...

Huge problem and so afraid: INR stays the same after surgery despite warfarin/marcumar

Hi Marco, I wouldnt worry. For general information, in Germany Warfarin is called Marcumar. I started off at warfarin of 2mg per day, but it turns out that I need 10mg per day to keep INR between 2-3. 1.3mg is nothing. I suspected my INR would be 1 at that dose. What they need to do is to...

    Mechanical Valve Data

This question is hard to answer because people in their 30s needing a heart valve replacement are very rare in the general heart valve patient distribution. This problem is compounded by the fact that some people in their 30s will need AVR because of other serious diseases or because of...

Redo valve surgery within a year

Hi Toffee, you have to make your own decisions regarding valve choice. I was in a similar mind set with my first AVR. I have a root replacement at in 2014 with an equine valve with superior hemodynamics. The surgeon said that it doesnt calcify as much. And he was right. It didnt calcify, but...

    Questions on Selecting a Surgeon

Hello, I would advise against talking too to many surgeons, but it is good to speak to a few. I went to the cleveland clinic london, spoke to three, chose the one with lowest complication rate. (It isnt just about mortality, but all the other things that can happen after surgery) I think it...
