62 years old and meeting surgeon in 10 days to decide on valve type

You realize you responded to yourself here? No wonder you thought that they were good questions. 😂 Probably why it’s exactly what you’re thinking about. 🤔

What is the one thing you couldn't live without during post-surgery recovery?

Walking is key. They’ll have you walking a ton in the hospital. They wouldn’t release me until I could walk up a flight of stairs. I got home and went with a relative to the store the next day. Had to pick up some stuff for my son’s birthday. The relative was because I wasn’t cleared to...

AVR need to do my 1st Colonoscopy, freaking out.

I had a colonoscopy years ago while on warfarin. I’ve also had a second heart surgery while on warfarin. Gallbladder and appendix removed. Elbow fracture. Broken thumb. Vasectomy. Etc. Sometimes I bridged. Sometimes they just took me below 2.0 INR with no bridging. I guess being a...

Should I push to replace my mid ascending aorta?

Along these lines, when I had to have my gallbladder removed, the team and I agreed it was best to just take the appendix at the same time. My appendix wasn’t giving me any trouble at the time, but a family history plus the motivation to reduce the number of invasive procedures while on...

    Traveling after surgery?

My first trip through the Canyon was much hotter. Well over 100F at the bottom. That was a couple miles from the trail head climbing out the second time (went in consecutive years). But it was much cooler in June. Went in August the first time. Mid 80’s maybe?

    Some photos to relax with.

@Critter - your Astro work is pretty great. I lack the patience, the equipment, and the dark skies for it. I did a single exposure of the Milky Way at a vacation rental a couple years back. But none of the stacking and noise removal and star tracking exploits.

    Career after heart valve replacment

They’re not allowed to ask beyond things like setting minimum lifting requirements and fire fighters will have to pass physical tests.

Life expectancy after a repair vs replacement

I’ve been under the impression that my valve has a lifetime guarantee.

New to forum, but not new to heart valves..

So if Wikipedia says the sun sets in the west, that’s inaccurate because it’s in Wikipedia? Interesting take. Was the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America not unanimously adopted on July 4, 1776? Christmas is not December 25th?

New Member - Valve replacement coming up in less than 2 weeks

When I was a teenager recovering from open heart, I did a lot of mall walking. My folks had a rotation of family friends that would take turns driving me out to the mall for my walks. Me and the blue hairs strolling past the closed stores. The mall doors opened for that purpose an hour or...

    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

I don’t really have a dog in this hunt, but if I were 64 and my medical team was telling me that this is the last open heart they were going to do on me, AND that I could not have the one option that is most likely able to ensure no subsequent operations are necessary - I would insist that they...

    Hair loss from warfarin

Had a friend who developed alopecia after a massive heart attack and bypass surgery. No warfarin. Just a response to trauma.
