    Doctors and misinformation

I've had 5 surgeries and for me a second or third medical opinion holds the most weight. For my OHS, first opinion was the cardio, second was the surgeon, then I went my internist, then back to the cardio and again to the surgeon. I even snuck in a colorectal surgeon's opinion on warfarin and...

INR - How low should you go?

Old Russian proverb доверяй, но проверяй "Trust by verify" However, when one gets a second opinion, the second person should be as competent as the first.

    Enhancing Bioprosthetic Valve Life Post-operatively

From the first paper "However, current evidence relies on basic experimental designs that are often insufficient to delineate the underlying mechanisms." The second paper was beyond my ken but does not have the word "stenosis" or "bicuspid" and there are only three mentions of valves (mitral)...

    Enhancing Bioprosthetic Valve Life Post-operatively

What I've read is that there is nothing one can do to change the deterioration of your native valve or a replacement tissue valve. It is what it is. Since they really don't know why one person has problems and another does not, science based treatment is basically an educated guess.

    4 weeks post-surgery

I eat what I want, when I want and how much I want. I can have breakfast for dinner one day and a tuna fish salad for dinner another. Hot dogs one day and eggplant casserole another. I test about every 2 weeks unless I am out of my range of 2-2.5. It's worked for 10 years now. When I need...

    Hi from Brazil

Well it cites 2009 statistics and quotes 2006 papers so it's a ~13yo presentation of one man's opinion. Per Pellicle, Mayo pulled it off their website.

    Doctors and misinformation

One source of misinformation is this forum. Take all science information with a dose of skepticism; that's whether it comes from doctors, nurses, specialists and especially untrained autodidacts who believe they are experts.

    Bisoprolol and exercise

Don't see how one person's take on metoprolol is even relevant to bisoprolol. There are a lot of medications that you have to "take it and see what happens." Each person is different and the non-therapeutic effects of a drug can vary widely. For example metoprolol takes the wind out of my...

Inspiris Resilia vs On-x, can't decide

My range is 2-2.5 and I can easily stay in range most of the time. I used to be 2-3. It wasn't harder to move to 2-2.5. It's like Goldilocks principle, you need to find the dosage that's "just right" to get you in range that's "just right." :)

Testing Strips for Roche CoaguChek XS

The provider my insurance company uses gives you the meter for free. You just pay for the strips. When I switched providers, the old one took back my original one and the new one gave me a new Coaguchek. Some people on here order from this place and reported the prices and service are good...

    Friday Fun Questions

I told a group of coworkers at a meeting that I was going to be out for 6 weeks for a valve job. The project manager got a quizzical look on his face and asked "Why does it take 6 weeks for a valve job, I just did one on my truck and got it done in a couple of days."

Cancel nonheart related procedure? How long a wait for Cleveland Clinic surgery dept. response?

My colonoscopies occur in a hospital setting because that's where it's done by my two doctors. It's still "out patient" since I leave as soon as I wake up. The biggest risk in a colonoscopy is bowel perforation because the doctor turned right instead of left. This is an uncommon accident but...

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

That video was pulled by Mayo for unknown reasons and is now hosted by Pellicle. It dates from at least 2010. There are down sides to warfarin that haven't been mentioned. First you cannot take NSAIDs and several other treatments for arthritis. This is a real negative for me. I can take...

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

I was 50 when I chose a mechanical. At that time TAVR was approved for high-risk cases and was on the way for general approval. My cardio and surgeon told me to not make my valve choice based upon future possibilities. Even if approved for all patients, TAVR might not be a fit for my heart...

Pre-surgery consultation - list of questions

I drink cranberry juice on warfarin. A glass every two days or so does not effect my INR.

    Not doing surgery

It works for some people. It is only utilized under pretty stringent conditions after all else fails.

    Small Anulus 20 mm

You don't worry about the sun coming up after the sun goes down. You cannot change the size of your annulus, thus put your concerns aside. I have a debilitating disease that's OK now but will get worse. I need to put my concerns asive and take each minute as it comes.

    Random bruising on stomach

I get random bruises in weird places. I believe its from my CPAP tube or mask pressing into my skin for several hours. Do you wear a large watch that you might be sleeping on?
