How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

You might disagree about dosing strategies, but if a person stays in range, like carolinemc does, then their regimen works for them. Her reality of maintaining her INR within range validates her approach. The goal is to stay in range. Warfarin metabolism is very much an equilibrium that...

How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

My urologist says that blood in the urine is generally not caused by warfarin. If I see it, he wants to hear from me. There are other things that cause it, but being on warfarin makes it more visible. For example, a bladder stone may be giving you hematuria, which you will notice earlier...

Sweet 16 for Bovine Aortic Valve

"If you are not waiting for the valve to malfunction what are you waiting for?" Despite the happy talk on this forum, OHS is a life threatening procedure which the medical establishment (doctors, hospitals, insurance) will not allow you to have until the risk of death or disability from a bad...

How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

I've had blood in my urine and an INR within range. I've had a high INR and no blood in my urine. There are several things more common than a high INR that can give you hematuria.

Sweet 16 for Bovine Aortic Valve

People with tissue based valves get routine testing to verify the valve is still operating properly. As mentioned by johnnycake23, his testing included a stress test. You don't wait "for it to start malfunctioning" but replace it before it has problems.

    Coagucheck machine life

Duracell. They aren't what they used to be. It leaked a few months ago. I had Chuck's problem and contacted Roche. They told me to replace the batteries and that fixed it.

From possible to confirmed BAV and all that is to come

Really? You take the statement of a news anchor reading copy written by who knows who as an "insight into the American view..." In case you didn't know, Alabama is part of the world to a Chicagoan :)

    Coagucheck machine life

~5 yo. Alkaline. Didn't take them out but had leakage and had to clean off the machine's contacts to get it to work right. I may start taking them out. I started tracking when they are replaced.

    Cardiac Catheterization

For me it was a positive experience. No problems. Done quickly. For years I have been warned about clogged arteries but this test showed my arteries were not clogged and my only problem was the stenotic aortic valve. That was good news. The worst thing was grogieness from the sedatives.

Saying hi - 41 year old with BAV and surgery "soon"

I agree, I know nothing compared to the surgeon and SO DO YOU know nothing compared to my surgeon. You consistently cast doubts on the OnX valve. You are not a cardiothoracic surgeon, a cardiologist, valve designer/maker or cardiac nurse. Maybe you own stock in a competing valve :)

Saying hi - 41 year old with BAV and surgery "soon"

As PhillyJohn's surgeon said "because he prefers how they install where possible, and because he now feels comfortable about the historical performance of the valve despite it being somewhat shorter than other valves." You really shouldn't place the reason for a medical procedure's...

    Inr

Actually it's not an "opinion" but a fact that the St. Jude has proven itself through many patient years of use. That's why they changed the INR range from 2-3 to 2-2.5.

Do you have sternum pain after open heart surgery?

I had a heart pillow and used it. It was helpful most when coughing. My only restriction on driving was "don't drive while on narcotic pain pills."

    Thank You and a Tip

Thank you for the recommendation. I am a believer in guided imagery meditations as well. I participated in therapy sessions where through guided imagery, they teach you how to remove stress, relax and meditate. The goal is to be able to use the technique anywhere and w/o the guide. It helps...
