    Why bridging?

Okay, need all you clever people to help me understand the theory behind bridging. So you go for a procedure that involves bleeding, 'they' think that the sort of bleeding you do when on coumadin will be dangerous, so they put you on a different drug. But still a drug that slows clotting...

    What happened to warfarininfo.com?

I am trying to find Al Lodwick's page to send a link to a friend who has been put on warfarin following a pulmonary embolism. The page is no longer at that address and googling is not helping me. Do you guys know what happened to it?

Approximately Speaking, when should I start to Panic

I had Keflex for a kidney infection a couple of months ago, it made my INR go UP by about 0.7

Study recommends continuing to give warfarin before and during pacemaker implantation

Ah, I'll be due for a battery change in a couple of years, I'll make sure I keep a link to this study in case anyone argues with me!

living with a monkey on my back

I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve as well. Diagnosed at 18yo, first replacement at 22yo. They gave me a tissue valve first off so I could have kids if I wanted. Five years later, with a 2yo and a newborn (6wo) I went for a follow up. Tissue valve was almost completely worn out. I was told...

    Anticoagulation and birth control pills

I am 32yo, I have a mechanical valve and subsequently on coumadin. I was told that I could not take the contraceptive pill due to the interactions. I never really liked it anyway, and after much discussion and consideration, I went with the Mirena IUD. I find it fabulous. I was also having very...

    Tooth extraction and warfarin

It depends on the dentist... some don't see a big deal in whipping a tooth out for no real reason, INR notwithstanding. I am lucky my dentist is more cautious, especially since I am terrified by the thought of extractions.

    Warfarin and antibiotics?

I have had erythromycin before, and as long as I follow the directions about food it is not too bad. I will check out that link, thanks Freddie.

    Warfarin and antibiotics?

I have been put on a course of antibiotics (Erythromycin and Flagyl) for an infection in my mouth. I have a dentist appointment booked in two days to see if it is actually tooth related. I know both those antibiotics will interact with the warfarin and push the INR up. I was hoping for some...

    Red Wine & INR Levels

Erm, I have never found that alcohol does anything at all to my INR... and I have given it some serious testing! But, if I lose or gain as little as 5kg I have to adjust my dose. Very annoying. I have stacked it on lately, probably gained 5kg since I had to give up my job, and my INR went from...

Grrr! I really hate in when cardios tell you...

I was having heaps, freaked out big time, thought my pacemaker was playing up. I had a major anxiety attack, thought I was dying, went to the ER. Doctor there pulled a face and offered me a sedative. Could have punched him. Made me feel like an idiot who was wasting his time. Why he didn't get...

Eager to get pregnant after MVR 3 yrs ago....

My cardiologist has stated that he would not support me through a pregnancy as it would be way too risky. I had two pregnancies while I had my tissue valve (I now have a mech aortic valve), and I have two healthy boys, but I would have loved another. To further complicate things my new partner...

How many have had multiple OHS?

I've had two, just over five years apart. Second recovery was much harder, also due to the fact that I was only 3months post cesarean delivery. I suffered nerve damage in the second surgery and ended up with a pacemaker as well. I now have a mech valve and hope I never need another sternotomy...

Surrogacy - harvesting eggs from Mech valvers?

Wow, thanks for that info, guys! I am looking at a year or so before getting serious about this, but being the sort of person I am, I like to plan ahead. I am hoping that a family member will step up to be a surrogate, I also have a close friend who has said that she would do it. Surrogacy laws...

    Mentally adjusting to OHS

Hey guys :) I am now 3.5 years post-op and I feel great. Bearing in mind that I recently ended a 12-year relationship and I am madly trying to find new job so that I can keep my house, that is quite a statement to make! I mentioned in a post above that I was treated for PTSD. I have also...

Surrogacy - harvesting eggs from Mech valvers?

Hi, I have been reading all the info on pregnancies with mech valves and decided that I don't want to take the risk. I have read that some people on here have had babies using surrogate mothers and with their own eggs and husband/partner's sperm. That is something I would like to know more...

How Many Tissue Valves Don't Last As Long...

I had a porcine valve that lasted me 5 years and got me through two pregnancies. At the 5 year follow-up it was found to be 'falling apart'. The second surgery left me with nerve damage and I now also have a pacemaker. I was 22 when I got my porcine valve.

    resting heart rate seems high

I had a similar thing to you with my second surgery, nerve damage resulting in a pacemaker to keep my bottom chamber going. But I set my own rate, so presumably you do too. And at cardiac rehab my resting heart rate was 95. The nurse mentioned that it was high, but nothing was done about it...
