Redo AVR scheduled for Feb 7

I'm still sorry to hear you need another surgery so soon, but glad to see you found a doctor and hospital so close that you have faith in, its always nice not to have to travel far and be closer to your family and friends. It always still to have to cancel things for surgery, Justin had to miss...

    Switching from Warfarin to Coumadin

Hey Lance, I just realised this month is a DECADE that you've been home testing. I think it is great you have stayed around sooo long to share what you have learned in that time and help so many others, Thank You. By the way what was it Rain used to say about INR going all over for no apparent...

    2nd OHS

Duffey, brought up some good points, especially in the surgeries that are much less common, like Tricuspid valves and right side issues in general, you really want the team w/ alot of experience in that. For the most part, they would be the surgeons that specialise in Congenital Heart Defects...

    A little evidence

I just wanted to mention for people who read this in the future, this article was from 2011, there MAY be some anticoag in the future that can be used for mech valves, but right now they only have been approved for Non-valvular Afib. They halted the trials for Dabigatran in Mech valve...

Question about mobility etc after surgery

Anne, I was thinking IF you feel like it, maybe it could be really helpful for people in the waiting room, for you to do an update here and let everyone know how things worked best for you or anything that surprised you the first couple weeks home. Especially since you ARE in very good shape...

Dental Care ~ 1st appointment to the denist in a month, previous endo, worried!

I don't know if it makes any difference, but the past few years, Justin has used sonic toothbrushes and the dentist has noticed a difference Since Justin got BE after losing a baby tooth (molar) we figure it can't hurt. There are some really inexpensive sonic toothbrushes available now.

    A little evidence

Sorry in advance this got very long. I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for, If it helps here are the guidelines (IN the US) for Valve replacement Morbidity and Mortality reporting http://aats.org/multimedia/files/guidelines/aats08-april-guidelines-manuscript.pdf That gives pretty good...

    A little evidence

I believe MANY of the studies on various, Valves, surgery, longevity, ect DO take into account things like sternal infections leading to sternectomys (seems to be an emerging surgery group) atrial fib, damage to nerves requiring a pacemaker and any other problem that can happen since most...

    A little evidence

. I don't believe anyone at least here, who chooses a tissue valve is "sure that you'll avoid future OHS with a TAVI valve" They do so planning on having at least 1 more OHS, if they are younger than 50, and plan on out living a tissue valve they would get now. BUT based on the info available...

    A little evidence

From an article published " Yes that is the abstract related to the article you posted to start this thread. I was pointing out that 30 year old articles really didn't have much to do with valves used today. I'm still not sure your points w/ the articles or how it relates to the thread...

    A little evidence

I think part of the reason there aren't very many details which makes it hard to learn much from this article, is the fact it is NOT a study, or even an abstract of a study, but simply an article about one of the studies presented at the 2011 STS conference, About a small group of valve...

    A little evidence

I'm not sure I would agree with your opinion, that the differences would be even greater, now, since I'm pretty sure they were using bileaflets mech valves, but without reading the whole study, MY guess would be they weren't using the perimount valves then since they were just doing trials in...

    A little evidence

I'm pretty sure the reason 30% of older bio valve patients are on aspirin, has nothing to do with their valve and more to do with many docs recommend aspirin for most older patients altho Im pretty sure the reason any of these people are on anticoagulants is to avoid clots caused by various...

    A little evidence

According to Virchow's triad, factors predisposing to thrombus formation can be divided into endothelial, haemodynamic and haemostatic factors. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1861363/) (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9870192) The hemodynamic properties of modern mechanical...

    A little evidence

This is simply NOT true. All the Percutaneous valves right now are TISSUE valves and for the most part do NOT require anticoagulants, some times they use a short time of anticoagulants right after they get the valve, but NO longterm anticoagulants is one of the Pluses for TAVI or other...

Article: OHS vs TAVR in BC, Canada

I agree with most of what you are saying however it is NOT true that "(sorry, you can't do a TAVI in another TAVI)" for people who have a normal size valve, chances are they WILL be able to get a 2nd valve inside the first percutaneous valve.

    On-X CE-mark and (unfortunately) 1.5

I've had similar thoughts about ON-X marketing and claims, in general and especially when it comes to the PROACT trial. First I believe (IMO) that with all the talk when discussing valve choice of some day lower INR, that many people probably think there were hundreds or thousands of...
