    Sprinting?

It depends on what you call "severe". I'd ask my cardio....altho it would seem walking would not be a bad idea. I don't know what HIIT is, but I question sprinting.

    TAVR vs Mini-AVR...My Delema

Interesting study. I guess it only shows "there is no such thing as a free lunch"

    TAVR vs Mini-AVR...My Delema

I can only imagine your difficulty in choosing between so many options. When I had the surgery there was only one valve, mechanical, available so my choice was simple. Anything you do today can be changed if another procedure is necessary down the road. All you can do is investigate and choose...

    1 Year Anniversary

Congrats on your 1st year. That is probably the hardest year since you have to learn to adjust to a new normal. Remember, it is a "one day at a time" deal.:)

    Possible to Get More O2?

I would certainly contact your Cardio about this. I had symptoms like yours. My problem was diagnosed as "Pulmonary Aortic Hypertension (PAH) about 12 years ago but did not affect my life until about 2+ years ago........extreme SOB, sleeping a lot with lack of strength and energy. I was put...

    Self dosing question

I agree with Standardlocity to increase to 6mg and followup with your doc.

BAV stenosis moved to severe…what now?

I would get in touch with your Cardios office to schedule an appointment with another Cardio to answer your questions. Who knows how long your current Cardio will be off?

    TAVR vs Mini-AVR...My Delema

I was your age about 20 years ago.....with a mechanical heart valve that was 40 years old and I could do what I did in my 50s (I thought). Now I am nearly 90 with that same heart valve (thankfully). Once I hit +/- 80 things began to change, not in a good way.......it is called "old age". IMO...

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

I think you are making a wise decision to avoid a 1.5 INR. My only mishap with my valve, a stroke, came 50 years ago (before the INR system was introduced) and most certainly was due to a low PT (forerunner to INR). Since that time I have had an INR range of 2.5-3.5 and have had NO issues with...

How old?......60, 70, 80. Since your surgeon aborted the TAVR you must have some sort of significant problem. An OHS can fix the problem and you will be on your way to a longer and healthier life.

    Tooth Extraction

I would not think you need an antibiotic for simple evaluation or x-ray.

    Tooth Extraction

For the past 40 years I have taken an anti-biotic (amoxicillin 2000mg) before any dental work......cleaning, extraction, filling etc. Better safe than sorry. As far as I know, I have never had my cardio involved in any dental decision......my dentist has always prescribed the Amoxicillin. I...

    choosing right valve

Based on the limited info in your first post I would also be inclined to suggest looking at a "bio" valve rather than a mechanical valve at your age. Research some of the older posts to become familiar with the pros and cons of the different choices. Like Pellicle said above, the oral health...

    Mechanical Bentall Resources

I was also 31 when I had the surgery.......almost 57 years ago. My doctors were pretty blunt with me when they explained my situation. The risk (in 1967) of surgery was 7%....my risk of dropping dead, without warning, was 25% and they felt I would be dead by forty if I did not have corrective...

    Hair color changed after surgery?

After walking the earth for 88+ years (56+ on warfarin) I still have a full head of brown hair with some graying, mostly at the temples. The "hair loss" story is another "old wives tale" that circulates from time to time.

INR range question, 2.0-3.0 vs 2.5-3.5 for mechanical AVR?

I believe that physicians and labs are most comfortable with 2-3 INR because the vast majority of their patients are older a-fib and other conditions requiring lower anti-coagulation. Even my doctors INR computer program only shows a 2-3 INR range and he and I know that my INR's are, almost...

The best bleeding stoppers in emergency situations

I carried some anti-biotic ointment and some band-aids in my fishing tackle box and golf-club bag.......but then, I was not riding mountain bikes or climbing. Normally, only first-aid-type stuff is good to have on hand......the serious stuff requiring stitches or a cast means a trip to the...
