Nano Nano - The Valve of the Future?

I'm not an AVer. My MV was replaced because it had become myxomatous. I would like for medical experts to find a prevention for that so that NO surgery would be required.

    Tiredness 9 months after surgery

What was your condition and lifestyle pre-op? It took me at least 8-9 months post-op before I felt consistently good. I was in bad shape pre-op, and when I returned to work, I had already gone back to showing cats, sometimes driving, sometimes flying on weekends in addition to working during the...

Autonomic Problems related to MVP with regurgitation

I was cyanotic pre-op, severely fatigued. Had trouble thinking, because my blood wasn't getting oxygenated property, yawned a lot, also had CHF. I wouldn't say I was anxious or depressed. And, yes, the surgery fixed it. Most definitely.

How long did it take your warfarin dose to stabilise post OHS?

It was about 4-5 months before I was relatively stable, and that was about the same time I got my first INR monitor. I don't eat greens every single day. I usually do, but not always. The green stuff I ate Friday was guacamole on the 1/2 order of nachos I had for lunch. I did have a small...

    Spirometer

I was in congestive heart failure, so, yes, I was having problems breathing pre-op. Had problems post-op too. Could not master the dreaded spirometer.

    Spirometer

I got mine after I was put in a private room. (Fewer things to keep up with pre-op.)

As one who home tests, do you ever go the lab for testing?

I've been home-testing since late Nov. 2003, and have not gone to a lab for a draw. I have probably had IINRs by lab draw in conjunction with a TEE (my INR was 2.0 when I had my last TEE, about 3 years ago). I have taken my unit to the PCP's office twice to compare. My ProTime 3 was off by about...

And what was your INR when this happened?

Low Iron, Hair Loss issues post-surgery?

Hair loss post-op is always a common side effect -- of ANY kind of major surgery. I was born with a severe underbite. When I was 17, my lower jaw was surgically broken and shortened by 3/4 inch The surgery took about 4 hours. I went through horrific hair loss -- had a bald patch the size of a...

Mitral Valve Repair Failure - Now What?

What exactly was the problem that led to the repair? The Cleveland Clinic & Mayo Clinic pioneered repair jobs. Nine years I was told I needed valve surgery and was told to go to either the Cleveland or the Mayo, because if it could be repaired, I'd be able to get it done at either place. I...

    Laying flat at night

I have always slept on my right side. Always slept on the right side of the bed, too. However, I discovered while in the hospital that it was no longer uncomfortable to lie on my left side... Had no problems sleeping on either side in the hospital or afterwards. Just had problems sleeping...

    Warfarin Schedule

Since warfarin is a slower-metabolizing drug than many others, taking up to 48-72 hours for a dosage to show its full effect, it's not going to hurt to compensate forgotten doses this way. And I did run it past my PCP and my cardio. If you're only upping a dose by 2mg and he takes 8.5 daily...

    Warfarin Schedule

Rick: I'm not sure what is meant by an "8-hour window." It does take up to 72 hours for dosage changes to reflect in an INR. I would never skip a forgotten dose. When I forget a dose (almost always on a weekend) and don't realize it until the next day, I take the current day's dose + 1/2 the...

    Soooooo tired

Phil: Speed up your appointment, get that surgery scheduled PDQ. Like you, my father-in-law passed out before his first MVR; he had been adapting to his declining energy level w/out going to a Dr. He hated Drs. This was within the year before I met & married my husband (we married about 3...

    Eyes after surgery?

I have worn glasses since I was in the 3rd grade, so I can't fault my vision on my surgery. I am nearly 8 years 8 months post-op and still have the ophthalmic migraines that started 2-3 days post-op. I don't think I had a "kinked hose" all my life, although my MVP was DXed in early 1990. That's...

    Eyes after surgery?

I never had problems pre-op. My ophthalmic migraines started 2-3 days post-op. I remember describing them to my surgeon while I was still in the hospital and he didn't understand what I was talking about. My father knew what I was describing, because he too has them and he's never had OHS. I...

    Warfarin Schedule

I was put on a p.m. schedule post-op for taking my warfarin. I switched it one day to the a.m. There was no problem with the INR. If you are going to a lab or Dr's office for your INRs, I would advise making a schedule change AFTER not just before the next INR test.

What have your INRs previously been? Is there a family or personal history of upper or lower GI problems? Have you ever had a colonoscopy?
