Insurance that covers pre existing conditons

Have you explored your university's website for what health services are offered? It should have a link to a company it has endorsed for offering medical insurance for students. With the University of Texas system's website, I had to play around with different pages to find the health service...

Insurance that covers pre existing conditons

Amy, I just looked at the health services page on the website for my alma mater, Stephen F. Austin State University (Nacogdoches TX). It says that most of its medical services are free, with the exception of immunizations and a few other items. I remember visiting the clinic several times (sore...

Side and tummy sleeper....how long after surgery will i be on my back??

I slept on both sides while in the hospital. I ordinarily sleep on my right side and prior to my MVR, had not ever slept on my left side because it was uncomfortable. However, I found that sleeping on my left side very comfortable almost automatically after surgery.

    Private Hospital Room Danger

I've always asked that my hospital room door be kept closed. Keeps down noise (have heard too many antics from the nighttime staff -- almost wrote "graveyard staff") at night. I have never stayed in an isolation room. However, my dad was in something similar for several days at Baylor University...

Traveling full time while on Coumadin?

Kim: One of my friends & her hubby have been gallivanting around the US & Canada in an RV. She has bought an INR monitor because of that.

    Self Testing

More people self-test and adjust their own dosages in Europe than in the U.S. There are quite a few medical papers about this.

First time to dentist for scrape and clean since being on warfarin

I wouldn't worry about any INR change from just taking 2000mg of antibiotics before a dental. I carry amoxi in all my luggage and cat show judging briefcase. If I am bitten, I take 2000mg immediately after cleaning the wound, and follow it up about 6-8 hours later with several more capsules. Any...

    Sooo frustrated.

I have had 2 lab draws recently within a short time after or before testing with my INRatio. The first was early on Friday, June 7, and my INR was 3.4. Had a colonoscopy and late that afternoon was at an ER with appendicitis. My INR on a lab draw was 3.4 before they started reversing...

    Incision/Extraction Techniques

Not a cow, but maybe a dog or cat. I use 18g needles when giving fluids sub-q to a cat. I bought some 26g universal lancets at a Walmart last week. Had bought 2 boxes of 21g lancets about 2-3 years ago (Walgreen's brand), and just opened the 2nd box last week. Walgreen's no longer carries the...

    Sleepless post-op

I spent 15 days recently in the hospital and had problems sleeping. I asked for extra strength tylenol PM, was given Benadryl tab & extra strength tylenol tab. Next night I just asked for the Benadryl. Not everyone can tolerate Benadryl, but it sure helped for me. I've been home since July 3...

    crash bruise ouch!

I would get it checked out -- warfarin or not... I've known folks who took a fall and learned later they had fractured a bone... Better to pay a little $$ and find out it's nothing than to live to regret not doing so...

Some good news and some other

I've had appetite problems due to emergency susrgery and subsequent readmission to the hospital due to complications. Hospital food was the pits. A neighbor brought over a meal -- smoked chicken, corn on the cob, cornbread and cantaloupe, strawberries & blueberries. It was great. I've bought...

    Emergency surgery

And what would you have done in my shoes? Stay on warfarin and continue bleeding? I hope you never have to make that decision for your doctor. It was damned hard accepting that to stop the bleed, we had to stop anticoagulation. I had to go on gut instincts (excuse the pun) that this would work...

    Emergency surgery

A friend of mine -- who is an attorney for the state of Louisiana -- told me she had searched online for appendicitis cases related to colonoscopies and hit pay dirt. When folks have OHS -- whether it's CABG, valve repair or replacement, heart transplant or other procedures -- there are others...

    Emergency surgery

Update Update The day after I was discharged for the emergency appendectomy, I was very sick from taking Augmentin -- vomited several hours. (It has joined erthromycin as to drugs I can't tolerate in any dosage.) Surgeon notified, switched me to cipro & Flagyl. Two days later I was back in the...

    Warfarin side effects.

There is no correlation between INR and the visual disturbances. You're referring to ophthalmic migraines (one of many labels). I started same about 2 days' post-op -- probably before they started me on Coumadin. I'm sure I was on heparin drip, moved to Lovenox shots, then pills added before...

    Emergency surgery

If you are on warfarin, consider the chance that you might face emergency surgery some day. I went through that last weekend. I had a colonoscopy June 7. Became nauseated during prep night before, vomited for 6 hours, developed pain. When I reported for c-scope (my 3rd), I mentioned the 6 hours...

Being re-admitted back into the hospital due to arrythmias

Canon: My husband had a-fib while in the hospital after MV repair. I had tachycardia on & off for about 2 months after my MV replacement. Arrhythmias are very common after OHS -- just think: They stop your heart and then have to restart it and all the parts must align and work together...

Large swollen "lump" at top of sternum 2 weeks post op?

The bump around my incision looked like utility construction across a road, large at first, then gradually getting flattened out as vehicles continue "pancaking" it down. Of course, you won't have vehicles :eek2: driving across your chest, but the incision area will eventually flatten out...
