Can my symptoms be related to MVR

My mvp was 4+ generally. No symptoms. I felt good other than a growing left atrium. I never really felt fatigued and was always cognizant of any changes. I'm not familiar with the med. The stress echo should reveal alot. You have a stress test/echo every 6 months or just the echo every 6...

Beta Blockers - Temporary or Permanent?

Hello Ron, I took a BP med prior to surgery. After surgery, I take a different BP med. That's kind of permanent. After surgery, they also gave me 2 beta blockers. I was weaned off the first after about 7 weeks and the other at about 11 weeks. The plan was just to take them during recovery...

    Life Insurance

I was rejected prior to surgery as well. I worked with my agent again 6 months after repair. I was approved for a term policy. The process took a few months. It was an additional term policy. It was more expensive than my current term policy that I had purchased 15 years ago but it wasn't...

Got a copy of my report- Still gonna get a second opinion

Beespin, If it makes you feel better, I was moderate for several years if not longer. I've only been seeing a cardiologist since 2006. I think the fatigue, etc. is more of a concern to me than the regurg which is monitored by testing. I find the cardiologist's response to your "symptoms"...

Got a copy of my report- Still gonna get a second opinion

Hello Beespin, I'm not a doctor. In my case, I had MVP with severe regurg. No sympthoms, no other issues. My EF was pretty normal, aortic valve regurg min to mild and not a concern at the moment. My left atrium got to about 6.2. The other chambers were pretty normal. I'm told when the...

    Back from hospital. Feeling well.

Great news. I was out in 3 days and I thought that was good. Keep using the spirometer and walk as much as you can handle.

    There holding me back

I know I only had mitral valve repair, but they DID NOT want to wait for symptoms to proceed. I would be looking for other opinions.

Is it really 30 days before you can drive?

I was told I could drive once I stopped taking the pain meds. I started driving after 14 days.

2 weeks post op how far should we be walking?

I think Bryan B stated it best. Everyone's a bit different although my walking mirrored his. It's a good idea to walk in circles at home so that you are not drifting away from your house in case you need to come back and you're tired. I didn't even have cardiac rehab per se. In the hospital...

    Mitral valve repair/replacement April 28th

Hello, I was 47 with MVP with severe regurg but not sympthomatic. Never had surgery before. The goal was to repair first and replace with mechanical if not repairable. Actually, a few days before surgery, I changed surgeons within a practice when I decided to go robotic vs. mini thoracotomy...

    First Cardiology Visit

Hey Bryan, I had my 1st echo 3 months post-op only when I had some pleural effusion issues. Otherwise, my echo would have been at 9 months.

    Terrified of Male Catheters

I don't remember anything about it truthfully. I don't even remember them putting it on or taking it off. I don't even remember going to the bathroom for about a day. Was a non-issue for me.

    Out of State Drs Co-operation.

I initially picked a surgeon that did surgery at Hospital A. My cardiologist is at Hospital A. Two days before surgery, I changed my mind and picked a surgeon at the same practice that did surgery at Hospital B two days later. I chose a different technique. Hospital A did it several ways...

    Valve repair redo?

Hey Bear, While on an on-line chat with Cleveland Clinic, the nurse on the other end said that Dr. Gillinov will be having a webchat event on 3/14/11 discussing in some manner robotic valve surgery. She said that it may be a good opportunity to ask questions. I'm not exactly sure how that...

    Valve repair redo?

My surgeon's office said they have the training to have redo's (inital - robotic) done robotic or minimally invasive. Of course, all the factors will have to be taken into account. It really does go down to the surgeon's comfort level.
