AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Well, perhaps you're right. . I had an appointment out of town today w/ a new surgeon. He ordered a CT scan and discovered that I have an aneurysm in my ascending aorta of about 3.5cm. My former surgeon never checked for this, and when asked he said no CT scan was needed. New surgeon suggested...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Just to add to that.... I looked up the hospital and they have "average" ratings for AVR surgery, but "worst" survival rates. Don't know how much weight this holds. But kind of scary...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Pellicle, I can't stand hearing my own heart beat, at least not in the still of the night on my pillow. But I'm trying to figure out some ways to find that more comforting than re-ops. I think I could figure out a way to do that. As far as anti-depressants, I think they are serious...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Does anyone have any info on the long term effects of coumadin therapy? I've seen that dementia is more frequent, and also calcium build up in arteries. I recently read something about vitamin K2, which helps to deliver calcium to your bones rather than your arteries. Anyone taking this, or...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Thanks for the comments and support. He is reputed to be the best heart surgeon in Louisiana, but also known to be an *******. I can agree with the latter sentiment now, and will have no evidence of the former. ;) He told me a couple of times that my chances of dying were greater than...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

cldlhd It is now, b/c my surgeon dropped me. :( I called to try to reschedule, because I had been feeling badly physically, as well as still confused. His nurse called me back and said he would no longer follow me. Feeling very defeated right now, because he was the only heart surgeon in my...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Just home from blood work. It's down to the wire, and I still can't decide. My reservation about tissue is that the valve he uses, the Trifecta GT, has no studies on longevity b/c it is newly approved. But I guess he wouldn't be using it if he didn't have confidence in it? neil My surgeon...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Hi honeybunny, Thank you for your response. At first I thought I was more comfortable with my choice of tissue valve. A friend directed me to the askapatient.com to look at patient comments on warfarin. and coumadin. I realize everyone is different, but reading those comments was scary! I've...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Thank you all so much for the replies. I wish I would've found this site a year ago, but it's very comforting to be getting some answers. MrsBray, I asked my surgeon about the On-X. I was really interested in it b/c of the possibility of less warfarin.....but he dismissed it, and told me it...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Thank you Paleowoman, for your repsonse. (I did not see my post under my name, and posted again. (Oops) I am very afraid of the ticking noise, but am also not fond of the idea of future surgeries. I am 5'6" and my doctor says he will be able to hear me tick from across the room. I'm...
