INR range for person on ACT because of a fib, all native valves

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone here is on ACT because of a fib only, and not because they've had a valve replaced? My mom has been on ACT for almost 30 years and is very steady in dosing (4mg / day of coumadin). She has not had valve surgery so all valves are native. The reason I ask is...

No surgery (for now) for mom.

Hi all, Got back from CCF last nite after a full day of tests yesterday for mom and then a meeting with Dr. Lytle. Not a whole lot on her echo has changed in 6 months (slightly higher PAP by a few mmHg but he said it's surgically not relevant given the small change), no worse on the regurg for...

after a month my operation pls suggest me

I can't really comment on the pain and food but other folks may be along that are much more knowledgeable than myself. Briefly on the nuts and fish, my understand is that nuts like almonds and such are good for you (in moderation I would think) and I know fish and omega 3 oils are good for heart...

after a month my operation pls suggest me

Namastey! I've found this to be a very good group of folks who are always willing to answer any questions they can. I'm the daughter of a mom with mitral valve issues vs an actual patient but still the folks are very welcoming and helpful. I'm actually leaving with my mom in a few hours to...

after a month my operation pls suggest me

Hi Manipreet - I just wanted to say hi. I have a lot of friends through work from Bangalore and as it turns out, one of them is originally from Lucknow. He thought maybe you were going to Narayana in Delhi but I mentioned Mumbai and he knew Asian Heart Institute. I just saw that Dr. Panda did...

Mom's back in the "waiting room" I think

Nope, no stress test and she never ended up having that other one when she got back from CCF. After all the testing out there and talking to her GP and what I read and feedback from folks here, she respectfully declined her local cardiologists "offer" and he accepted that.

Mom's back in the "waiting room" I think

Hi everyone, Been a while since I posted but I've been reading off and on as much as possible. As some of you know, my mom has twice gone out to CCF based on her home cardio thinking it was time for her MV replacement (once 10.5 years ago, once this past December) and CCF has said not time yet...

My mother's local cardio doesn't support home testing.

Lance - thanks for the info. For right now, mom doesn't want to pursue home testing so I don't need to take action but I am going to bookmark your comments should I need to go back to it in the future.

    Interesting. . .

Steve - perhaps after surgery when you're recovered and back to your normal activities, the game can be "guess how many miles this guy runs with his replaced valve".

Kegger party to end all kegger parties

My concern wouldn't be size but temperature. I'd need a big enough ice house to keep it sufficiently cold since I can't guarantee the weather would help. My husband has talked of getting a Golden Retriever so we could call it "Molson"..... i.e Molson Golden.

    Pradaxa

I updated my other post but in short answer to your question... does he!! go with "no"?? That was how unsupportive he was about home testing but I'm picking my battles.

    Went Bowling Today

Glad to hear it..... now the pertinent question - did you throw a turkey???

    Pradaxa

You know, it's interesting..... this new drug came up during my mom's visit with her GP today. He said he thought we might have heard about it and would be asking. He said that it doesn't require the testing for INR like her Coumadin does. I said you mean it just is or isn't, there's no levels...

What is a stress test going to show??

Hi all, Mom and I met with her GP today just to talk about things since her surgery was canceled. It was interesting because she's been a bit concerned that if she didn't have the stress test, her cardio would tell her to find a new doctor. I said "if he gets his shorts in that much of a bunch...

My mother's local cardio doesn't support home testing.

Well, I went to the GP with my mom today to talk about various things since her canceled MV replacement, among them was a clinic in the area that might do a finger prick or home testing. He said he absolutely doesn't believe it's as accurate and won't support it. I was very disappointed but my...

Houston Says It's a NO GO!

Hey Norma, thanks for taking the time to post. I actually came to the site just to see if there was any news. Your doctors in TX sound like my mom's in OH. You've trusted them enough to travel to see them so trust in their skill and judgment and know that this is what's best for you at this...

My mother's local cardio doesn't support home testing.

She was ok with it because we didn't know until we thought she was to have surgery that there were any other options. Once she found out that a finger stick was an option, it's definitely something she wants to look into. Especially given how her veins are (small and they tend to "roll")... if...
