Can't decide on mechanical or tissue valve.

I don't want to go through OHS a third time as the pain was excruciating. When you talk about having an active life, what would you consider as active? playing rugby? being around heavy machinery? skiing? I can't talk about those things as I don't participate in them and I guess someone else...

    Blood pressure!

Hi Lisa, How stressful is work? You mention that you get busy at work. Is it fair to say that stress at work may be attributed to your high blood pressure?

    Heartbeat visible under skin

My heartbeat is visible under my skin near where the heart is. Is that where it is other than your neck? My heartbeat is also visible on my neck, near my jugular vein (I think it's that) near a thick vein on my neck. When I also exercise, you can see it more, near the heart. I think that's...

Can exercise wear out my homograft?

I recently had surgery last year which replaced my aortic root and aortic valve with a mechanical composite valve/root and I also had my original pulmonary homograft/conduit replaced with another one. Can exercise wear out tissue valves quicker? Thanks!

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Ross Procedure?

I had a Ross procedure when I was 8. It gave me 15 years and allowed me to reach the age of 23 to then have my aortic valve replaced. I don't think I would have have had this long had I gone with a tissue valve.. or two. . I wouldn't recommend it if mechanical is an option though, only because...

    2nd AVR Chest Crack

Hi cwm, I had my second 'chest crack' - I love that description lol, early this year in April. What was their reason for giving you a minimally invasive procedure first time around? - I wish I had that for my first time.

Severe Aortic Valve Insufficiency & Lifting Weights/working out & many other ?'s

There's no guarantee that replacing your aortic valve through the groin will become the standard in decades to come. There is a guarantee that you will need a second replacement. Save yourself the risks that come with OHS by having it done once with a mechanical valve (Chances are it should last...

    Echocardiogram question

I'm sure if it was a known fact then the hospital would have informed you as a precaution. Don't worry.

    En route.. Self testing

So I've performed my very first INR test at home this morning. The test returned an INR of 2.4. I was 2.8 when I left the clinic on the 9th of September. I feel very powerful and confident now with this knowledge and control over my life. I have one question. I understand that I am supposed to...

    :( overwhelmed

I'm sorry to hear that. What has your cardiologist said with regards to your CHF? - You're a trooper, you've survived this long and I know you'll be here for much longer. Heck, I'll be lucky to reach your age and they knew about my condition from birth. We live in a day and age where cardiology...
