Final Pre-Operative Tests? What do they typically do?

Dave:I do the same exact thing. Being an engineer I treated my condition as an engineering project. I have posted this video link before. It is my surgeon describing the exact same condition and surgery that I had. The only difference is that this patient choose a tissue valve... and I went...

Final Pre-Operative Tests? What do they typically do?

Tony and Dave...wow seems like just yesterday I had the same, concerns, comments and questions. I am 4 months post-op. This is my 7th week back at work. Before you know it your surgery will be over... a success...your recovery will be going fine. You too will be saying the waiting is the...

Should I choose a mechanical valve or a tissue valve?

I started out thinking tissue because of a fear of all the negativity about the necessity to be on Coumadin. However, I found the prospect of multiple re-ops at increasing older ages a worse prospect. I have had no problem adjusting to Coumadin. My EF went from 45 pre-surgery to 60 post-op. I...

Should I choose a mechanical valve or a tissue valve?

One operation was more than enough for me. I hope that with my valve choice it is a one and done situation.

Should I choose a mechanical valve or a tissue valve?

I am glad I went with the ON-X Aortic Valve. I too had a fear of warfarin...although I have chosen to go with the brand specific Coumadin. I am having no issues with the Coumadin and I am extremely happy with my valve choice. In fact the On-X valve is so good that my cardio feels it is perfectly...

On the clock - Aortic Valve, Aortic Root, Ascending Aorta, and hemi-arch replacement

I had the same surgery and valve. I am going on 17 weeks post op and doing just fine. I was back driving in 4 weeks. Back to work in 10 weeks. I was blessed to be a patient of Dr. Bavaria as he is one of the best and my surgery was very complex. 9 hours in the operating room. Be sure to do the...

    Game on!

Justin: Best of luck. I am sure you will do just fine! You have the right attitude. Once it is known that surgery is needed, I believe that you should just get everything that you can in order and get it done. I'm 16 weeks post op tommorrow and doing great.

So Upset. My baby has BAV...

Better that you found out than be unaware of her condition. Yes, it is devastating to know she inherited this condition. I did not find out till I was 56.5 years old. My aortic aneurysm was 4.9cm at that point. I am fortunate that it did not kill me. I would rather have been having my doctors be...

How to find surgeons and hospitals that perform minimum invasive aortic surgery in CA

I am 14 weeks post op from standard open heart surgery. I did not even think of the possibility of minimally invasive surgery. My surgery was very complex and I was in the OR for 9 hours. My surgical process included Deep Hypothermic Cardiac Arrest. My point is that I am beginning week four back...

Anyone been penalized for taking FMLA for their Heart Surgery?

I am an engineer, not a sales person. The commission is a cut of company sales of which I had nothing to do with the generation of.Another portion of the commission is for meeting engineering deadlines.

Just went on Coumadin - looking for a good electric razor

Do not waste your money. I had the same fear that if I cut myself shaving my bleeding would be hard to stop. My INR was 3.2 that week. It did not take too long for the bleeding to stop. My INR when last tested was 2.7. Blood test this coming Monday. I actually grew my beard back when I was on...

Anyone been penalized for taking FMLA for their Heart Surgery?

During my first week back at work I learned that I will not be paid a significant portion of my pay. I was paid the commission portion of my pay while I was out on FMLA. Now that I have returned to work I was told that I will not be paid my commission pay on any purchase orders that came in...

Hopefulheart- read my posts. I would have the surgery sooner than later. Follow the link below. It is my surgeon discussing the procedure that I had. The only difference is the patient in the videos elected to have a tissue valve. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5jGG4sH2Cc

Do I just go on waiting?

It is quite simple in my mind....4.9 cm measurement of your aortic root.....TIME FOR SURGERY! I WOULD NOT WAIT!!!!!

When is it time for surgery?

I certainly would schedule it if those were my numbers and situation.

How many of you chose your valve type based on what others on here went with?

I initially was thinking tissue. But, once I did my research and thought about the choice alot, I choose the On-X valve. The idea of another surgery or two lingering out there was simply something I would not want to live with. The possibilty of reduced coumadin or just asprin as a...

    Good to be back home

Welcome to the other side! Glad I have no memory of the breathing tube! Congrats for now on saving your valve. Mine was a basket case as was my aorta!
