Time to come out of the shadows...

I also didn't have a TEE but I did have an angiogram the night before the surgery. I'm 55 and the surgeon said he likes to do an angiogram to check if there are any arteries clogged before he does the surgery that way he will take care of them during the surgery. My arteries were good. I also...

    Schedule the surgery already?

I also agree to get it done soon. I didn't really have a choice so had the surgery exactly 8 weeks after diagnosis but I'm glad I did it so soon and got it over with. Also as Juli posted, it's nicer to walk in the summer or fall rather than the winter. I had my surgery in October which gave me...

A slight indent top right of chest

My surgery was 7 months ago and I have the same extra upper right side, just under the collar bone, incision that you do. There's a part of the area that feels kind of hard, sometimes a little indented and sometimes a little bumpy. It feels strange when I cross my right arm across my chest...

    Life Expectancy after Valve Replacement

My Surgeon, who also has done thousands of aortic valve replacements, says the same thing as does my cardiologist and my family doctor. I trust all three with my life and if they say I will have a normal life expectancy then I will listen to them. Here's to a long and happy life for all of us! :)

    Today I sneezed...

I managed to avoid sneezing for 3 months after my surgery! So I don't know how painful it would have been. But I laughed a lot! Even in ICU and boy was laughing ever painful! Unfortunately my best friend is very funny and there was no escaping laughter pain!

    Questions no one talks about

I didn't feel any pain at all and I don't mean that the pain was tolerable I really mean that there was no pain what so ever. And in my case I wasn't given any pain medication. When I started waking up I became agitated and they gave me pain medication but the medication depressed my breathing...

    Going under Anesthesia...what's it like?

OHS was the only time I ever had general anesthesia and I don't really remember it. When they were prepping me for surgery in a little cubicle they gave me diazepam, quite a bit I would say! I was very happy and content when I got to the OR! I remember looking around the OR, commenting on the...

    yearly checkup

I would get a second opinion and personally I would want to get the aneurysm taken care of as soon as possible. I went to my surgeon with an echocardiagram that showed that I had a 4.8 aneurysm and my surgeon told me to schedule surgery with 8 weeks. Footnote: I'm very glad I did the surgery...

Surgery in less than a month

That was exactly the feeling, very very tired! I would describe it as exhausted. I remember in ICU I felt like I didn't have enough energy to lift a sandwich off the plate, by the time I finished eating I needed to rest! And yes, hitting my finger with a hammer would be more painful!
