    Anxiety about upcoming surgery.

I had my bicuspid aortic valve replaced with a St Jude's Mechanical valve and I had a very large aneurysm rebuild. I wasn't pale and I wasn't very bloated, just my fingers and hands a little. There will definitely be many tubes and wires. The only thing that bother me a bit were the drainage...

    Anxiety about upcoming surgery.

I remember the same disappointment. I had surgery in October and didn't have an SVT until March. I really thought that I was done with them. I've been getting them since I was 13 and I too will probably get them for the rest of my life. Bearing down to cause pressure in order to stop them has...

    Plain old AVR

Hi PAN! I have a St Jude mechanical valve. I've had it for 4 years and have never heard any clicking. As far as Warfarin goes, I test with a meter at home and it hasn't been a problem. This site, Pellicle in particular, has been of great value in learning how to maintain INR etc. Best Wishes!

Daily Aspirin Post Aortic Valve Replacement

For 4 years I've been taking an 81mg aspirin every day. After about the first 6 months it started to bother my stomach so I switched to enteric coated aspirin and I no longer have any problems. I also take it with dinner.

    St Jude Valves

Tom and Protimenow.... Same here, my cardiologist told me to just drop my INR to 1.5 for procedures. No bridging. My surgeon said that he only uses St Jude valves because of their track record. I'm quite happy with my St Jude.

You can't always trust the labs

In the beginning, before I had meters, I had my blood drawn at a lab in town which I found out sends the blood to a testing facility about 3 hours away. At the time I assumed they would give reliable results but they didn't. I discovered this about 6 weeks after surgery when I passed a kidney...

    Warfarin and Asprin

Hi Jane! I totally agree that you need a new doctor! I also agree that your dosing is too extreme at 8mg and 12mg, it should really be 9mg a day. When I first got out of the hospital I was taking 5mg and so had 5mg tablets only. When the INR managers at my cardiologist's office wanted to up...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

I was 55 when I had my AVR and I went with a mechanical valve, St Jude. I didn't want to go through open heart surgery again. Warfarin has not been a problem. I have a Coaguchek XS meter and test my INR at home. It's very convenient and I'm always in range. As far as clicking, I haven't heard...
