Need another aortic valve replacement after just four yrs

Sorry to hear about your early failure...if it were me I would go mechanical next time. The only early failures of mechanical valves that I have read about here were due to endocardtius (SP?) At the very least I would need a definite report on the early failure. I probably would go with a...

    ON-X Valve?

Michelle: As RobThatsMe stated:The main reason for my choice of this valve was that it is designed to help prevent/deflect panus development around the valve. The design of the ON-X in my opinion is superior to the St Jude.

    ON-X Valve?

Tomorrow marks my 1 year anniversary with my ON-X Valve. My INR target is 2.0 to 2.5 I think it is quieter. I usually only hear it late at night if I wake up. Generally, I do not hear it. I am very happy with my choice of valve.

    Invasive vs Non-Invasive valve replacement?

I am coming up on a year on Tuesday. I had no choice but to go full sternotomy due to the nature of my complex surgery. See video link in my signature. My 8 inch scar is now all but invisible.

    Letters to the kids?

Agreed-You must remind yourself that these are just contingencies because very few people have poor outcomes. I prepared a memorial service program and music for it.

Very Confuseion. Open to opinions and suggestions

I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary. Valve choice is very personal. I am unaware of anyone on this site who regrets their choice. I am absolutely certain I made the right choice with the ON-X mechanical. Coumadin has not been a problem. I only hear my valve in the wee hours of the night if I...

    Coumadin Long Term

My INR is back to normal. Looks like the fluctuations were do to the varied contents in the fruit smoothies Karen was making for me to take to work in the morning. The carrots were cause it to drop (Vitamin K) and then ginger was causing it to increase. Smoothie recipe changed...,back in range.

    On-X CE-mark and (unfortunately) 1.5

I agree with RobThatsMe: Accept that my cardio has me 2.0 to 2.5. No issues. I am usually 2.4 , 2.5, 2.6.

    Coumadin Long Term

Can significant changes in the day to day stress level cause your INR levels to go up significantly and in general become unstable. I have been rock solid 2.4 to 2.7 range for months. Now I have had a low of 1.9 and most recently today 3.4. No dietary or other changes. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Coumadin Long Term

I initially was fearful of Coumadin as well. But, once I did my homework I was more scared of multiple AVR's in my life time to replace a tissue valve. It is a very personal choice. I am very happy with mine. When I left the hospital I was told to keep my INR between 2.0 and 3.0. But, my...

    Onyx or St. Jude

I choose the ON-X Valve. I am very happy with the results. It was 9 months ago today that it was implanted. My target for INR is 2.0 to 2.5 set by my cardiologist...originally when released from the hospital it was 2.5 to 3.0.
