Aortic valve repair vs mech valve replacement

Hi cldlhd and river-wear- I see Dr. Bavaria this Thursday for my 1 year follow-up. It was supposed to have been on my surgical anniversary. But, Dr. Bavaria is an extremely busy man. He needed to postpone it two months. You will love him... he is brilliant! Yet I found him extremely easy to talk...

    cardiac catherizatin

I had my cath and TEE about 4 months before surgery. No problems... I barely remember a thing. They used something called a 'STAR CLOSE" to seal the wound in my groin.

What type of valve is best for me?

Either choice saves your life...very personal.....I started out thinking tissue...but the more I researched... the more it made sense for me to go mechanical. The fear of multiple re-ops was greater than my fear of being on Coumadin.....I choose the ON-X valve. Coumadin has not been an...

    On-X survey

I did the survey...it was over a year ago....not too intrusive. No input from surgeon required. Well, worth the $200.

    Please help with surgeon selection!

Go with your gut. Tough choice. I was lucky that my surgeon and hospital were rated extremely high. He also was very humble and easy to talk to. If it were me...based on what you say...I would go with #1.

What Valve Type Did You Choose and Would You Do it Again?

Elgato; If you really feel the ON-X valve is for you, I am sure if you contact ON-X they can give you the name of a surgeon near Tucson who implants it.

    2 Weeks Post Op

Welcome to the other side! I did no formal cardiac rehab. My surgeon told me just to walk. Within a month I was up to 4- 1 mile walks per day. I then started doing house projects. Finally painted the basement floor after 10 years in my house. I also restained my deck.

    surgery scheduled 2nd of april

I would also read as much as I can about valve selection. I have been on Coumadin for a year now. No problems. My surgeon recommended an INR of 2.5-3.0. My cardiologist has me at 2.0 to 2.5. Last test was 2.3. Testing about once per month. So, this is a lower dosage than when I first got out of...

Hospital the Night Before and Blood?

I asked the same question about blood donation. I was told “we take it all off at the top.” Later I would learn they do DHCA with RCP. They chilled my body down to 58 degrees. Drained all of the blood out of my body. Put my brain on the heart-lung machine then, fix my heart with no blood...

    Watchful waiting and Boston doctors

Dave: I am now one year post-op. Other than taking my regular heart meds life is back to normal. Valve choice- I have yet to read about anyone being unhappy with which way they went...tissue or mechanical. Both save your life. You need to weigh the + and - for each valve type. I started out...

    What is Danger of BaV

    A. Can you live with a BAV and not replace it? All depends on the very specifics of your total cardio-vascular situation. B. What makes it where you have to graft and/or replace it? I was told that if your aortic aneurysm gets near 5.0 it is time to repair or replace it. As my surgeon says in...

    ON-X Valve?

It was dramatic my improvement after surgery even though I was asymptomatic. My EF went from 45 pre-op to 60 post-op. My initial INR target was 2.5 to 3.0 set by my surgeon. My cardiologist has me in the 2.0 to 2.5. Last test was 2.3. 5mg per day. Even if ON-X gets approved in the 1.5 range in...

What Valve Type Did You Choose and Would You Do it Again?

However,Take it with a grain of salt as it is marketing data! A lot of good info out there. That is why I choose it. I am an engineer. I treated it like an engineering project. I had the valve with the attached graft and additional graft running all the way to the arch.
