    On-x versus St. Jude

I chose the ON-X. Coumadin no problem. My INR range 2.0-2.5. I am now home testing with the Cougucheck XS meter. Smooth sailing so far. Although my cardio says that the valve is so good in time maybe no Coumadin.

2nd valve replacement - do I go mechanical this time?

Hi Carolyn: I have had the ON-X valve for 17 months now. I rarely hear it anymore, initially I would only hear it late at night...no more! Coumadin has not been a problem, I initially was thinking tissue. But, multiple re-ops to replace a failing tissue valve was a bigger fear than Coumadin .I...

Help needed on choosing the promising mech. aortic valve - St.Jude v/s On-X

No Title I went with the ON-X valve. See attached. I have Blue Cross-Keystone Health Plan East. (Pennsylvania) I am very fortunate to have such good insurance. They covered my CoaguchekXS Meter and all the monthly supplies 100%. They also had an RN hand deliver it and train me how to use it.

Going in for AVR on Aug 27th- On-X Valve

Initially, post surgery as my heart was recovering from surgery and 57 years with a really bad BAV I felt it pounding. I also would hear it occasionally mainly late at night. Now, 17 months post-op...no more pounding and I am very rarely conscious of the fact that it is different than the valve...

Going in for AVR on Aug 27th- On-X Valve

Hi pgarg: Monday the 18th I am 17 months post-op with my ON-X valve. At my 1 year follow-up I was told that my LV has returned to normal size. My EF has gone from 45 pre-op to 60+ post-op. I do not need to see my surgeon for two years for the next follow-up. Coumadin has not been a problem I...

    Valve Selection Questions

I started thinking tissue due to Coumadin misinformation. For a wealth of reasons a mechanical valve was the right choice. I take brand specific Coumadin...this has not been an issue. I rarely hear the "ticking" anymore. My mother is 90 years old. Longevity in the family. So, the fear of...

Want to start new exercise routine and lose weight for surgery... Any advice

Katesmom: I credit what I call "cardiac pre-hab" with getting through my complex surgery without any heart related post-op problems. About 3 months before surgery I joined the YMCA and walked 2 miles a day on the track in 32 minutes...this was a minute per lap on the inside track. 6 to 7 days...

Difficulty choosing the right valve for me.

I began thinking tissue, due to fear of Coumadin. But, the more I learned the more it was clear that mechanical was the way to go. I rarely hear any ticking. Coumadin has not been a problem. It was my decision , no advice from doctors pro or con for either choice.

Soon to be home testing-looking for pointers and advice.

My insurance has approved a Coaguchek XS meter. The paperwork is soon to be complete. So, I am looking forward to not having to go to Quest Diagnostics once or twice a month. I believe they are covering everything including a consistent supply of test strips and someone paying a visit to my home...

Valve Selection / Pre-Surgery / Post Surgery forums in one thread

"I worry a little bit about the sound of a mechanical valve...I think I can move past it as it will mean mine hearts ticking after a while." IRONMAN: I am 15 months post-op with one of the largest ON-X valves- I rarely hear it anymore. Initially, I felt it more than heard it. I only hear it...

One year post-op follow-up with Dr. Bavaria

I had my one-year post-op follow-up with Dr. Bavaria today. This could not have gone better. The results of the latest echo and this mornings CT scan say it all. My left ventricle has completely remodeled itself and has returned to normal size. My LVEF was 45% before surgery. It is now an...

What type of valve is best for me?

Do you know what your LVEF was before the mech valve? Mine was 45%. Dr. Bavaria said that it would go up to 60%. It did indeed go up to 60%. I see him tomorrow!

Aortic valve repair vs mech valve replacement

cldlhd: The valve is doing fine. Coumadin is not a problem. Bavaria recommended brand specific over warfarin. I only occasionally hear it usually late at night in bed. It is not unpleasant.
