Yesterday I had my three year follow-up with Dr. Bavaria. As expected everything looks and sounds great!!!!!

Completely normal.......I was a wreck...completely asymptomatic...lucky I found out about it.....just passed my three year anniversary last week. Other than taking my daily meds and self-testing my blood every two weeks..life is the same as pre-surgery. Coumadin..no problem...INR stable at 1.8...

Hard to believe that today is the third anniversary of my surgery. I am doing great! INR STABLE @1.8. I am getting married in September. Best of luck to all in the waiting room and newly post-surgery. Bless everyone on this website for sharing their experiences.

I am coming up on my 3 year anniversary on the 18th with my ON-X valve.. Coumadin no problem....self test at home with CoaguChek desired INR range 1.8 to 2.2. Best of luck with your recovery.

Everyone has their opinion.......I initially was thinking tissue valve.......did my research and chose the ON-X valve. Coumadin and self-testing are not a problem. My mother just turned 92...one of the factors in choosing a mechanical......desire to hopefully avoid additionally surgeries also...

Best of Luck tomorrow...I have an ON-X as well. Originally my INR range was 2.0 to 2.5. Now my range is 1.8 to 2.2. I home test with the Coagucheck XS meter.

When discovered in October of 2012 mine was 4.5 cm. February of 2013 it was 4.7. This is when I first saw my surgeon. He wanted to operated in 2 weeks. I needed more time. My surgery was a month later. At this point it had grown to 5.0. So my understanding has always been 5.0 is time for...

Actually the lower INR range has been approved in the USA. My targeted range is now 1.8 to 2.2.

I do not think so. Very personal choice. Both save your life. I choose mechanical after originally thinking tissue. Very happy with my ON-X. Coumadin no problem. I home test new INR range is 1.8 to 2.2. I did not want repeated re-ops. My mother will be 92 in February. I had mine done at age 57.

Immediately after surgery I would hear my ON-X valve. This was usually late at night when it was very quiet. Now I very rarely am aware of it.

Sorry to hear about your need for a second OHS. I am 30 months post-op with my ON-X valve. I was able to home test a little over a year post-op. I was fortunate that my insurance covered the cost of the Coaguchek XS meter and supplies. It was hand delivered and a RN instructed me on how to use...
