Sore neck/back and sleeping problems .... how long???

It took a good six weeks to be able to get comfortable enough to sleep in the bed (still propped up recliner style). But once I hit that milestone, it got a lot better a lot faster. I would wake up really stiff, though. I had a massage starting at week 5 and it really helped. I would sit...

    Mechanical Valve Gradient Increasing

THink positive thoughts, Paul. Don't worry until it is really time to worry. Sounds like you need more data. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

What was your initial reaction to your diagnosis?

One other memory I had of when I was first diagnosed with BAV popped in my head as I read everyone's posts. I was in my early thirties and single when diagnosed. Besides worrying about the "Sudden Death" risks, I remember being devastated at that time and thinking that no one would love me...

    frequency of INR testing

I'm 12 weeks post op and am testing every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on what's going on with my recovery (medication change, increased exercise, etc.)

    Memory foam beds

How long have you had it? If only a few days, I would try airing it out for a while before sleeping on it. I have a memory foam topper, which they recommended you not sleep on for a couple of days while the volatiles from the foam evaporate. It's fine now, but the odor was initially very strong.

Back from post-op checkup #2. . . mixed bag of findings.

Hang in there, Steve. Your heart has been traumatized. It's only reasonable it would have inflammation. Give it some more time and I'm sure it will calm down and act right.

What was your initial reaction to your diagnosis?

14 years ago my heart murmur was diagnosed as "something." I went and had an echo with my soon to be cardiologist's office on my Primary's recommendation. The cardiolgist called me on the road with the results, which freaked me out. He told me I had Aortic Stenosis caused by BAV and that I...

    B type natriuretic peptide?

No worries. When I went in the hospital with A-fib my BNP was in the 700s. I did have CHF symptoms and was freaked out at the time, but now I'm much better several weeks later. Doc said it was from the surgery and would get better with time.

    I'm Parananoid About Having a Stroke, Help;/

I agree with what Al said! I'm new to warfarin as well, and since I added a daily multivitamin with Vit K to my routine, the INR swings have diminished greatly. Before that it was all over the place and went as high as 5.6 and as low as 1.3. I've learned to never hold a dose because it...

THE ACTUAL surgery report and the Hospital Report

Yes- definitely get your reports and read through them. The surgeon probably was assisted by one or two other trained assistants. My surgeon was assisted by a Physician's assistant who works with him in his practice. Her name was listed on the report, so I assume she played a key role. There...

THE ACTUAL surgery report and the Hospital Report

Hi, Eva- I just received copies of all hospital/surgical reports. Forturnately, my file was not so big as there were no complications while I was there (those came 2 weeks later). It was interesting to read how long I was on the by-pass machine (170 mins, 120 mins coss-clamp time) and to what...

    Post surgery med changes?

My advise would be not to refill your std meds for blood pressure before your surgery. I got a 90 day supply of Cozaar for hbp filled right before I had surgery, thinking it would save a trip to the pharmacy and then they took me off of it after surgery. My meds have changed several times...

Hey, Bruce- Thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way as you are probably getting that new valve RIGHT NOW. Talk you sooon, I'm sure. Hope you get the ON-x like you want. I'm loving mine lately. It's just ticking along beautifully and that feeling of heaviness in the center of the...

Post Recovery - Numbness in outer right hand & getting over bad chest cold

I woke from surgery with my left hand totally numb and it stayed that way 4 or 5 days. It slowly got better and is okay now. As it got better the outer two fingers where the last to wake up. I do think the surgery can pinch/injure nerves and create some issues for a while. Hope you feel...
