    Foldax Continues

Foldax continues to have encouraging advancements in multiple trials, gain FDA approval, and large funding. They spoke about the very high potential of this valve in a recent Cleveland Clinic Q&A. Still a ways to go, but the first human patient for the Aortic Valve is apparently doing well. Will...

29yrs - valve choice and aortic aneurysm ( difficult decision due to way of life )

Correct! My mistake, Mt. Sinai in New York(Dr Paul Steltzer and Dr El-Hamamsy) has some of the best surgeons in the world. Statistically, No one has performed more repair or Ross procedures than them and with outstanding success rates(which are of course relative and require looking into for...

29yrs - valve choice and aortic aneurysm ( difficult decision due to way of life )

There is plenty of facts on here so I will just give my broad opinion and say good luck and I wish you well. It’s very sad that I keep seeing/hearing from people that are leaving this forum because it no longer feels constructive and welcoming. I know of 6 people who left this year. Really bums...

Advancement and the future of Mechanical Valves/ Blood Thinners, ETC

I agree with Warrick. The Tria Valve would potentially change EVERYTHING. December 21 we will hear more. And a 5 year follow up in 2024. I was recently told many people in the cardio industry are very excited about this. Huge potential.

    Ross Procedure

Yep! Regurgitation is an option for Ross. Dr Ismail El-Hamamsy, one of the most prolific Ross surgeons in the world, responded to my inquiry and said Ross is a great option for younger patients who have stenosis OR regurgitation. Found that very encouraging.

How coumadin and AFIB is handled before valve surgery

    Good luck!!! Keep us updated

    Ross Procedure

I think it’s more complex than that. Has to do with position of the valve. Not saying it can’t be done! Just looking for a more official confirmation.

    Ross Procedure

Anyone know if the Ross Procedure can be done on BAV with AI/Regurgitation? I know it deff can with Stenosis. Just curious

    Mechanical Valve Stroke Risk

I think we have to be careful classifying risk with limited info—paroxysmal afib is very very manageable in terms of stroke risk. Maineiacs, what about that article you posted is so discouraging? I do personally think there is lots of encouraging work regarding mechanical valves. As a young...

    Mechanical Valve Stroke Risk

Can you expand a little on what exactly 90% in range means in lay terms? Is that 90% chance of not having an event? Seems a little more risky than the previously describe 1% stroke risk. As always, your very detailed info is greatly appreciated. Always read your posts carefully!

    Mechanical Valve Stroke Risk

this was incredibly helpful! I sent her your first paragraph about the 1% to 1.5%. And while I understand Warrick making the point you can still have a stroke in range, if the risk is around 1% Im not going to pass that info along to someone struggling with anxiety around strokes. But thank you...

    Mechanical Valve Stroke Risk

Hi everyone, Coming to you now to help a friend struggling with panic attacks around stroke risk and mechanical valves. Since my surgery is still potentially ways away, I haven’t looked deeply into that research. Can you share any encouraging info or data regarding stroke prevention, blood...

How coumadin and AFIB is handled before valve surgery

Just curious if a pacemaker would fix this problem? Always seemed like a potential good solution with almost no downside? Curious if others can speak to this?

    Regurgitation vs Stenosis

Recently had someone say to me: “Oh you have regurgitation and not stenosis, lucky you.” First i had ever heard of those two being compared. Does anyone have any info or literature to share discussing the difference? Is one really less severe than the other??

    Very helpful breakdown. Thank you!!!

    Schwarzenegger had another OHS

I don’t agree with everyone about the minimally invasive stuff. Again, I know someone who got that procedure done successfully—she was a 41 years old when she got it and it’s been about a year. By no means am I saying it’s the primary way for surgery yet, but all of us in this chat forum can’t...

    Schwarzenegger had another OHS

Is 3 OHS really the fault of him getting the Ross Procedure? Sorry I’m ignorant on some of this. Why didn’t they fix this one in 2018? and I know many here REALLY are skeptical of TAVR, but I find the progress encouraging. I know someone who had that procedure done. I doubt it will be the go to...

    Aortic Aneurysms

Thanks for this! Did they share their stars with you? Also did they say anything about long term prognosis post surgery/ life expectancy? Glad you enjoyed your time at Cleveland Clinic

Life Expectancy BAV Mechanical vs Tissue

Hey everyone, hoping some can shed some light/positivity for a coworker of mind very discouraged by a new large Swedish study suggesting life expectancy post BAV replacement is significantly lower for younger patients. Can anyone provide some facts or info from their cardios/research. The link...
