Tormented over where to go for surgery--Charlotte, NC or Cleveland/Mayo Clinic

Thanks for your response. I have a lot of fear built up over this whole thing and it tends to paralyze me and my ability to think through all of this. So far, I have not been deemed a "special risk" for surgery. So I need to remember that.

Tormented over where to go for surgery--Charlotte, NC or Cleveland/Mayo Clinic

Hello to all my friends here..... I live in Charlotte, NC with 2 hospitals to choose from, Carolinas Medical Center or Presbyterian. Both are good as I've been told. I have an ascending aortic aneurysm that's at 4.2 cm and a stable Bicuspid Aortic Valve. I will need surgery at some point on...

Ascending aortic aneurysm and Bicuspid Aortic Valve--Please talk to me! (New to this)

SuzanneSLO........I was also told of the 4.5 cm cutoff if the surgery is being performed for the valve. That guideline is new, having just been put in place in the last year or so. Since I'm at 4.2 cm I freaked out when my cardiologist told me that. However, my valve is in good shape in spite...

Ascending aortic aneurysm and Bicuspid Aortic Valve--Please talk to me! (New to this)

My ascending aortic aneurysm has been monitored for the last 6 years with yearly echos and ct/mri scans......so far it has remained stable at 4.2 cm. Thanks for your comments on the Cleveland Clinic. Lots of people have been commenting on their good experiences there as well. I'd say at this...

    Bicuspid Valve - Aneurysms Elsewhere?

Agian.....I had this same thought. I was concerned with brain aneurysms forming. Because if bad connective tissue can cause aneurysms in the heart, you have to ask the question of whether or not it can cause them to form in other places. I posed this question to my cardiologist. His answer...

    Bicuspid Valve - Aneurysms Elsewhere?

Incredible! So happy for you on this outcome. Gives me even more reason to have hope. I take losartan potassium 50 mg once a day, not twice, for high blood pressure. I have an ascending aortic aneurysm. I'd dance an irish jig if my aneurysm goes away on its own. Will mention this to the...

Surgeons/Hospital for Aortic Aneurysm repair in Charlotte, NC ??

I've heard Dr. Svensson's name mentioned many times and all with positive outcomes. I think the Cleveland Clinic may well end up being my choice when the time for my surgery comes. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to have Dr. Svensson do the procedure.....if he hasn't retired by then. :)

Ascending aortic aneurysm and Bicuspid Aortic Valve--Please talk to me! (New to this)

Bracken......one more thing. Your comment about your cardiologist being nonchalant about your diagnosis and the surgery really struck me. Every time I've met with my cardiologist, since day 1, he's had the same nonchalant attitude. I've been troubled by this a few times because I'm trembling...

Surgeons/Hospital for Aortic Aneurysm repair in Charlotte, NC ??

Hi kfay, Thanks so much for your response. It's nice to talk to someone locally about the heart surgeons and what they can do here in Charlotte. I will definitely consider talking to Dr. Chan. My cardiologist is Dr. McMillan with MidCarolina Cardiology. I'm sure he's familiar with Dr. Chan...

Surgeons/Hospital for Aortic Aneurysm repair in Charlotte, NC ??

I live in Charlotte, NC and will need surgery for an ascending aortic aneurysm (currently 4.2 cm) at some point. I also have a Bicuspid Aortic Valve, but it has no symptoms and may be able to be spared. Has anyone had any experience with a heart surgeon or a hospital in Charlotte, NC that they...

Ascending aortic aneurysm and Bicuspid Aortic Valve--Please talk to me! (New to this)

THANK YOU all for your posts! I'm so grateful for your information. I've felt very alone with this heart condition and it's a relief to talk to other people with similar circumstances. I did have both of my daughters (age 8 and 5) scanned and thankfully neither one has the BAV nor do they...

Ascending aortic aneurysm and Bicuspid Aortic Valve--Please talk to me! (New to this)

Hello everyone-- I'm new to the world of heart issues. I went to the Dr. 7 years ago for a sore throat and came out with the bombshell that I had a heart murmur. The heart murmur turned out to be a Bicuspid Aortic valve (I'm 38 years old and never knew). Investigation of the BAV revealed I...
