    Shots with mechanical valve

Guess I haven't had TB testing but have had flu shots, shingles shot, pneumonia shots, and series of hepatitis shots (do not have it but these are so I never get it) Between Mayo Clinic, cardio, and also pcp, they constantly bring it up and will grab you right there and give flu shot if I have...

Mini Stroke - OnX valve - on warfarin INR range 2-3

OK so now will add that I do not take any aspirin. My surgeon from first AVR did have me take it after surgery with porcine valve but nothing ordered after my mechanical. I think it my case (and maybe my case only) they want nothing going in that could cause irritation of any kind for my...

Mini Stroke - OnX valve - on warfarin INR range 2-3

At the risk of being called a brave fool I will post a bit of my story also so you have some more to think about. I DO have another medical that is autoimmune disease so take it for what I post it for. A year ago I had an ongoing bleeding issue. I was transfused blood about every third day...

    Dental Surgery

Agree with ForeverThankful. My INR the day before extraction was 1.6 and dentist said under 3.0 and all is good. I did take 1 antibiotic before exam and 4 or 5 more before extraction, stitches, and bone graft. Most blood I had he said was when they gave me first injection to deaden tooth...

    Staying the Course, 2019!

Quick check in for me. Nothing new. Glad the holidays came and also that they are over. Nothing more festive than spending the holidays with a bunch of old people (did I say that?) in Arizona. Yes, being a little sassy here. I can do that as I am of the age some would think I am OLD...

    Heart failure

Yes, I have congestive heart failure and always will, like tom said. My diagnosis for this came about 6 years ago when I had my valve replacement. I take nothing extra for it and live each day the best I can, like everyone else. Perhaps this is not exactly what you were asking or wanting to...

Tisse Valves nearing 10 years old and Have o be replaced

I agree with others here. Only you can decide. Make sure you ask a lot of questions and feel comfortable with the answers and then make that decision. I had a Medtronix(think that was brand) porcine valve that lasted around 4 years and was 60 when I faced second OHS. The way they explained...

    Friday is the big Day!

Yes, tigerlily, I had a cold also. They said same thing to me as you. I thought I was all ready.....noon the day before, I had a salad at restaurant for lunch.....and had a tooth crack....omg! I had done a lot of work to my teeth a month before surgery and was pretty worried. Found a...

    Dental Work

I had an extraction with stitches and a bone graft done two weeks ago. The dentist handed me 5 antibiotic tablets about 15 minutes before he gave me shots in mouth. He said the first shot bled a little and he waited a couple of minutes and then went back in. He said there was very little...

Hello all of you. Yes, busy time of year, thoughts of board shutting down uneasiness, holidays, and life in general, has a way of taking us in all different directions. I can relate to most of the postings. Autistic Granddaughter that is 18 and will graduate HS this spring. Then what...

Possible Second AVR Surgery - Any Risks?

I also learned my first replacement valve was too small. Seems like this has happened to quite a few. I am not quite sure how to feel about this as I was assured they measure several times before they put them in? Lots of things to consider here. I will tell you the thought of lawsuit did...

It's Time and I'm Scared and Confused

tigerlily, I am sorry you have so much to deal with at this time. From the outside looking in though, all looks about right. Some of the things that happened to you have probably happened to all of us at one time or another. Breathe deep. You sound just like me when I had a little nurse come...

Would Like Feedback on Both Pig & Cow Valves By Medtronic and Edwards.

Becky, I am sure you will do fine with either the porcine or bovine. You asked for experiences so I shared mine. I stand corrected by Tom in that I am not positive my first valve was defective. . All I know is that in four years I could not breath easily, tests showed cardiologist that my...

    Staying the Course -- 12-03-2018

Superbob, you and Motel 6 are keeping the lights on for us, lol Hey, I like reading that people have full exercise classes and that you would like even more days. Such a great statement to make here please keep pulling me along, lol I need a bit of a push or inspiration at this time. Oh and...

Would Like Feedback on Both Pig & Cow Valves By Medtronic and Edwards.

Becky, I agree with all of the above. I have had the medtronics porcine and it lasted a little over 4 years (bad batch, I believe) and then decided on a mechanical as I was 60. Two years on my new one and I really like it. Very personal choice and let your surgeon help you decide.

I am tip toeing in here as all seems to be pretty quiet. SB....Way to Go! You inspire me and I need to get off my butt and do something. Anne, I hope you get your DS settled and happy with his new digs. It is so dang hard to follow but like they say.....we have to give them roots and...

SB, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours also. We ALL have very much to be thankful for! My own little family has been divided for quite a few years now and I know how you feel. It is sad in a lot of ways but I feel good in sharing my family and knowing that I, ME, this girl, is above all the...
