Thanks. Looks like just pacemakers and defib then.

    Apple products

I’ve been reading in the news about Apple warning people to keep iphones and iPads several inches away from pacemakers and defibs. Since we have no battery or power source with mechanical valves I don’t believe this restriction applies to us (sure hope not). Agree?

    Aortic Valve Choices

I didn’t know at the time to ask my surgeon too much about brand. I was 41 so just asked whether he recommended mechanical, which he did. I mentioned brand and he said it would be st Jude as this is what he had used for 40 years and is proven. Enough for me! That was in 2015.

How much Warfarin Amount do you take?

I can check in the morning but they are generic. I’ve always had 2.5 and I have been on warfarin or Jantoven.

How much Warfarin Amount do you take?

Thanks! I have 2.5 mg pills so I don’t cut them.

How much Warfarin Amount do you take?

This is an interesting thread. I usually take 7.5 mg per day plus aspirin but lately now do 7.5 mg all days, except twice a week 5 mg. Plus aspirin. I am only 4 ft 10 and 100 lbs.

    A slight crisis of confidence

Yes, most of us go on with totally normal lives. My children were 6 and 8 when I had surgery. I have a mechanical aortic valve conduit (graft). I do everything now - run, cross country ski, work an insane amount of hours, etc. I see my cardio once a year and my surgeon once every three years...

    Worried about the future

I have a st Jude (aortic) with Dacron. I was told for life. I hope so as I was 41, just shy of 42 at my surgery and I am now 47. Counting on at least 50 years!

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

Still no bill from Remote INR. Ugh. Did anyone get one? I can’t bear to call them back again and wait on hold for an hour.

Open heart surgery in January 2021

This site is outstanding if you have questions. Staying with your parents would be helpful. I was a little surprised at how difficult some basic tasks like wiping the counter or unlocking my front door were when I first arrived home (in fact, I couldn’t unlock the door). I couldn’t even open...

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

I couldn’t reach them through the phone system today but then was able to get in using my account number. I waited on hold 45 min yesterday and was also told bills were sent last week. However, that’s what I was told the week prior as well. Anyone use Acelis? Like them?

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

I’m getting nervous about not receiving a bill from Biotel. I googled them - looks like people have experienced billing issues. Great ☹️.

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

Same here. Wouldn’t accept my birthday. Then I called from my cell instead of home phone and they accepeted my birthday (my cell is the number they have on record, used to have both on file but they must have lost my home number in the transfer). Before using my cell, I waited on hold forever...

    Age of Mechanical Valves

Surgery at 41 (just shy of 42). It’s been 5.5 years for my st Jude aortic mechanical valve conduit (valve with graft, which replaced part of my aorta due to a sinus of valsalva aneurysm). I’m 47 now.

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

My deductible is about $5000 annually, which is why I pay 100 percent of all costs up to that amount, and then 30 percent thereafter (plus premiums). So I pay about $1200 per year on monitoring. I have asked my doctor about self monitoring. He didn’t understand although frankly, I just call...

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

So I finally heard back from Remote INR. They raised the price from 250 every 4 tests to 880 every 4 tests (before insurance discount). I will still pay $101 every 4 tests after the insurance discount (I pay this $101 out of pocket due to my high deductible) but that’s crazy.

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

Thanks everyone. I still have not been able to reach the company. I have a great Coumadin clinic - they call me back same day with changes and I don’t pay them. It’s my cardiologist office. I’m in the US and it seems difficult to get strips on my own. I also worry about getting recalled...

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

I am curious if others have experienced issues with the new owner of coaguchek. First, they suspended my account because I forget to test three times (not consecutive). Now, instead of being charged 250 per month, of which I pay 101 per month after insurance discount, it increased to 880 per...

    Fingernail changes??

All of my nails are now thin, brittle and all have ridges post surgery. They won’t grow. I attribute it to warfarin. My hair is thinner as well.
