Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

Interesting. In pressing my optometrist again yesterday he said that given the frequency of mine (about once a week) that I could ask my cardiologist to run a carotid doppler test as it's an inexpensive test. He said it's unlikely the cause but that was his only guess. When I emailed the...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

I head to the optometrist today for my annual visit, where I'll once again try to nail him down on what causes them. Forgot to mention another theory is that it's hormonal. I've done pretty well since trying the B12, although I had a minor one yesterday, but it was the first one in 15 days...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

I started having ocular migraines (without pain) a couple years ago, before surgery, but you could also argue they started around menopause. Some think it's related to hormones. Shortly after surgery in late August they increased, as did my sensitivity to light. I'm now 10 weeks post-op and off...

    VitD and bio AVR

I happened to have an appointment with my surgeon (8 weeks post-op!) and asked him if Vitamin D is linked to calcification and he said no.

    Valve size and progression

Thanks for the kind words! Not sure even now that I'd be ready to see a video of the surgery but I'm hoping the experience I had with this surgery will still be in my mind for my next one. Today is my 6 week mark!

Sending you good wishes for a smoother road ahead. Sounds like you are in good hands.

    Back to Back TAVRs

This was the “vibe” I got from my surgeon when he suggested OHS again while I’m “younger.” I’m sure he doesn’t want to cast doubt on TAVR in the right situation, but he seems to lean more conservatively In its current form. I could be wrong in my interpretation of his comments, but that was my...

    Back to Back TAVRs

Yes but what happens at 78 and 88? His theory is it might be better to do OHS while I'm younger and save the TAVR(s) for older age. Who knows. I mean the math really changes if I get 15 years out of a valve doesn't it? None of it is too predictable.

    Back to Back TAVRs

I’m 58 and just four weeks past my first OHS with a 25mm tissue valve. When I asked a similar question to my surgeon his thinking is my next surgery would most likely be OHS and save the TAVR for the third round when I’m older. He didn’t sound too keen on TAVR in TAVR just yet. I remain hopeful...

    Smart Watch etc. Heart Arrythmias

Are you referring to a Kardia? I have one of those. My cardiologist is actually the one who recommended it.

    Valve size and progression

I'm now just under 4 weeks post-op after having been asymptomatic in the waiting room for almost two years. Good to have it behind me and I can tell you that the lead-up stress, for me at least, was way worse than the surgery. Four days in the hospital flew by compared to those two years...

    Paying for surgeries 100% cash

Newarrior, given the costs of the surgery in the US, I wonder what the cash price might be in Thailand. Maybe that's a better option for you?

    Paying for surgeries 100% cash

Not sure what the cash price is but the bills from my August surgery are starting to arrive, including the big one. Basically it’s a $300,000 surgery. I am so grateful to the ACA and my max out of pocket limit!

My experience with AVR and follow up 3 weeks post surgery

Yes I've been amazed and grateful for my lack of pain. My only real pain is in my back right shoulder blade in the middle of the night. I'm finding that Salonpas patches have been my friend. My chest has little to no pain, even when I've been surprised by a sneeze. Weird. I've been doing about...

My experience with AVR and follow up 3 weeks post surgery

Wondo, I'm sorry to hear about your not-so-fun ICU visit but I'm glad you are safe and getting the care you need. I'm three weeks post surgery and started rehab today. I am still on metoprolol, but I appreciate the reminder of the importance of staying hydrated. Will be sure to bring water with...

    Staying the Course -- September 9, 2020

Good luck Cici! I'm almost 3 weeks post-op and doing well. I was told to be extra careful to the threat of any infections post surgery for 4-6 weeks. I'd think this is a great question for your doctor. :)

My experience with AVR and follow up 3 weeks post surgery

Thanks for the update. I'm a little over a week past my surgery and glad to have it behind me. Each day brings an interesting little challenge, although thus far, thankfully the challenges are little.

    Now it's my turn

Great advice. Yes, since it's so hot here I'll be walking in the house for a little while. I was told the goal is not to get my heart rate up for the first couple of weeks as my body adjusts, so just walking in the house works for me. I already feel so much better having slept in my own bed...

    Now it's my turn

It appears I’ll be sprung out from the hospital today! I know I still have a ways to go. This is just the end of phase one. However, after spending two years with this hanging over my head, I can’t help but think that this has been much less scary than I imagined. I’m so grateful to just be...
