    countdown to cleveland

Hi Peej! I’m 31. Had my aortic valve replaced with on-x in February of 2020 at Cleveland Clinic. Haven’t had any issues with my valve or warfarin. You’re in great hands. Someone may have already mentioned it and your cardio may have too but get a prescription for amoxicillin to take the day of...

    Cbd oil

Another option for a relaxing mood- I also recommend delta 8 THC gummies. They’re legal (in most states), cheap and known as “weed light.” I just need a quarter to half a gummy in order to have an amazing night’s sleep.

    Cbd oil

I have had cbd oil maybe five times. Hold the oil under tongue for 20 seconds or so before swallowing. It relaxes me. I’ll also have a quarter to a half of a medical grade gummy now and then. No effect on inr for me. Both help me fall asleep.

Wishing you the best! Dr. Johnston was my surgeon last year. You’re definitely in great hands.

    Breathing Tube Fear

I was told by the nurses that I coughed it out in record time. Luckily the anesthesia was still in effect to make me not remember it. I woke up without it. My family didn’t even see with me it in ICU. I was so worried my throat would be sore but It was totally fine.

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

A really nice pharmacist at CC controlled my dosing and did a great job of it. I had heparin injections to stomach. All was fine on left side of stomach. Had hematoma form when they gave it to my right side on last day. Had to go to Cleveland Clinic ER couple days later to make sure it wasn’t...

    Exercise Test

@slipkid definitely. I think I could have put off surgery longer if I hadn’t felt drained in the days after my stress echo. The numbers were higher than normal and my AVA was .9. Surgeon I had at CC felt I should do surgery before symptoms. I may have been able to wait 6 months instead of 3 but...

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

I’m so sorry. Must be heparin. I got heparin shots. Maybe they can do shots vs a drip? I’m sorry you are having so many migraine auras. They are the worst. Nurses may be able to give you magnesium and riboflavin. I took them every day for a couple years before surgery, and they gave me those...

    Exercise Test

@slipkid oh wow, ok good to know. Thank you. I’m looking at results now. My EF was normal. It was the peak and mean gradients that were too high. Says “as high as 151/89 mmhg” during stress echo. Glad your EF is over 60% now.

    Exercise Test

Hi! I did a stress echo. Lots of heavy wires, running up the highest incline. I finished it but the numbers made the surgeon think I needed surgery in few months. He mentioned ejection fraction numbers were pretty high.

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

@MarkZ I saw Dr. Carey at Wilmer. Thought he was great. He saw one instance of vasospasm from migraine causing permanent damage (other than me). He saw them in the ER. It was not someone he sees regularly. I saw Dr. Harlan at Katzen when it happened. At first, I thought it was a retina tear...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

Yes I hate when that happens! Wish I could sleep through the auras. Had a migraine today - weather is a big trigger for me.

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

First surgeon I met with told me to come back when I have trouble getting up the subway stairs. Second surgeon had me do a stress echo. I won against the treadmill. Thought I was out of the woods. The ejection fraction didn't agree. Got surgery two months later. One year later, the biggest...

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

Glad you’re feeling better. May be completely different from what you experienced since your vision impairment was after surgery, but Vasospasm from migraine can happen and cause retinal branch occlusion. It is rare but happened to me. There are some studies about it online. Have seen neuro...

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

Also switched cardios for same reason. SO glad I did. Love my current cardiologist.

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

Must be a current study. I didn't hear him out on specifics. I cut him off when he said 1.5. It was probably after a few months at a higher range, but I have no idea.

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

Wow, @Unicusp that is scary he didn’t know why he chose it AND he’s already on Warfarin. I guess it’s also not surprising, unfortunately. During my first consultation with my CC surgeon, he talked about benefits of tissue, and I was sure I’d get tissue as a 30 year old. He made it sound like a...

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

Hi! My surgeon at CC likes tissue for everyone. He did discuss both options, but his preference was clear. Prefers inspiris. I think CC was one of if not first hospital to use them. I went with mechanical though. Talked to cardiologists and people who have had AVR. This forum has also been SO...
