    Post Surgery update

Hi Tezza, Just wondering how you’re doing! : ) I’m a week or so behind you, I think, in terms of recovery, & I’m beginning to get even more of a taste of the shoulder pain you were talking about... all of a sudden today (on post-op day 30) I got a sharp pain and can hardly use my right arm for...

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Hey @Chuck C - I decided to hold off on the Cipro for a couple days - just to watch and see. (In part thanks to you and Pellicle’s kindly offering your opinion that my incision was not infected - thank you.) But interestingly, (disturbingly??) a second NP called (after the first one who...

Moving to a plant based diet

I could be wrong, but my feeling is that the vast majority of this forum’s users have congenital, not acquired, valve issues, that if not diagnosed at birth, were found later to have been there all along. Does a plant-based diet prevent stenosis progression in congenitally diseased valves...

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Before the surgery, I’d found a bunch of papers that convinced me 2.5-3.5 was the way to go. Then the NP the day of discharge said 2.0-3.0. Then I read 2.5-3.5 is better for just the first three months.... then I tried telling my Coumadin clinic I wanted my range to be 2.5-3.0 and got told...

Thank you. Tell me again why your assigned target range isn’t 2.0-3.0?...

    Chest tightness/numbness/hypersensitivity

I have. I can never forget how they took jobs picking peaches for five cents a box. Worked hard all day and with the dollar they earned and were just able to buy a little, but not enough, food for the whole family for just that night. Aye yi yi. The things humans have gone through.

Incision on chest not healed completely.

@kevanndo These anecdotal horror stories... are just the thing right after breakfast. Thank you. (I have my own collection too, after a week in the hospital)

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Hi @Keithl & @Chuck C - - It sounds like you guys had such good support teams, willing to look at your scars, and give advice about what positions to avoid, etc... In comparison, I felt somewhat thrown into the deep end... No specifics unless I ask and ask and check and confirm and demand to...

    Chest tightness/numbness/hypersensitivity

Holy ****. That was fu*%#$&@ hard to watch. Could they not be a bit gentler with the poor guy???

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Thank you, Pellicle. It’s not COVID I’m worried about (although I probably should be) - it’s all the other crap like Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA, C. difficile...

Incision on chest not healed completely.

I don’t have a GP or a cardiologist at this point. I know I need to rectify that. And honestly, unless it’s absolutely necessary, I’m scared to go to the ER & have people who don’t wash their hands touching it. Judge me for that if you must.

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Apparently not! I try to live pretty cautiously, & get most of my adventures and exploring from books. :)

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Thank you. The thing is, the skin is red (well, pink) and irritated around it. But I don’t know if some of that is still normal for 4 weeks post-op or not. Dang it. Wish I’d never seen Chuck C’s perfectly healed 18-day scar! lol

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Hey Chuck, Yes, I had a feeling it could interfere with the warfarin, despite the nurse who called (telling me she’d call in the prescription) assuring me it would not. Amateurs. ; ) isn’t it a funny thing how much more careful you are to double-check the correct answer when it’s about your own...

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Lynn, thank you so much. That’s a good idea. I’d possibly have to walk around outside in the heat for 10-15 minutes to make a drop come out so there’s be something to culture. Ugh, I hate this. But thank you so much for your advice.

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Thank you, pellicle. I did the betadine painting for a week or so on the chest tube incision site, which is very slowly healing, I think. Part of the scabs have fallen off twice. I don’t know if that’s good or not. This time I’m concerned about the sternotomy incision... It has a burnt...

Incision on chest not healed completely.

I realize this thread is five years old, but rather than starting a new one, I wanted to see what @pellicle and the rest of you guys thought about this. I’m four weeks post-op and after exercise the past days have noticed a drip of whitish liquid on the edge of one of the scabs on my incision...

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

It is persistent alright, lol. It can’t be referred cardiac pain, I guess - it’s too long-lasting. Honestly, and for your sake I hope your doctors are different, but every single medical person I’ve mentioned pretty much any kind of pain to, has done the same sort of shrug or put their hands...
