First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

Don’t worry... & to some extent, try to be okay with things taking their time... even though I know it’s be more reassuring if all healed right away.. And don’t try and walk too much or do any of the arm stretching and stuff, & just stay still so it can heal (I know you’re probably already doing...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Dang! 9 1/2 weeks post op and climbing a mountain? I’m gonna totally use you as inspiration and motivation to try and push myself to exercise more, starting the moment this dang incision closes up. Wow! Metoprolol also is prescribed for arrhythmias/supraventricular tachycardia, which is why...

    Imminent AVR - 40 y.o. female - advice please

Just an update - it WAS staph in my nose, but I was wrong - you CAN use mupirocin on Warfarin. Was 6 days on it and hopefully I’m all set now. My hemisternotomy incision is still a bit open on the very bottom, but has healed a bit, possibly from the high protein diet I’ve been on - and vitamin...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

You know, you’re right... I’ve woken up mid-aura a few times this week already - it’s not fun. I sometimes associate that with my neck having been in a weird position for too long, or my neck getting cold, but I don’t know for sure.

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

Found this in a book called Power to the Patient:

Incision on chest not healed completely.

I used to be vegan until yesterday I think. I so want my chest incision to heal, I bought canned salmon and eggs and cheese and yogurt (and lentils, chickpeas and two types of trail mix). And I’m going to use my marathon runner husband’s protein powder to make a smoothie with all of that. That...

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Hey newarrior, Thanks for the reminder not to skip my b12 or magnesium either. : ) I needed that.

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

You guys are nice, but you don’t know what hell it’s been trying to get help with anyone on that ‘nurse-line’ - they refuse to look at photos, they’re mean, every time you try to talk to them, it’s a fight, & I end up actually wishing I hadn’t called.

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Mdapa, Yes, I’m following those guidelines but it still hasn’t healed, which is why I’m trying not getting it wet now, which seemed to help my chest tube holes close. Chuck, Thank you. I take d3 every day generally, but have skipped the last weeks, focusing on other things... Thank you for the...

Incision on chest not healed completely.

Just an update - the very bottom of my hemisternotomy incision is still not healed up and closed... at 7 weeks post-op. I wonder if this could be helped by eating more protein? (I’m a vegan) I’m trying not getting it wet at all - daily showers were making the scab keep coming off; and trying not...

Just Set a Date for Surgery

Hello, welcome, I hope all goes well for you, SteinBizzle, and that you are happy, healthy and at peace after the surgery. (I should’ve married a cardiology nurse... dang it...)

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Chuck, That’s great! I have heard that one should come off metoprolol slowly, taking a half tablet for a week or so before stopping completely. I don’t know if this is true, but there it is. My incision is still open in one spot on the very bottom. At 7 weeks post-op!! Very annoying and...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

How’s the recovery, Chuck? Feeling good as new? Notice feeling better than you did before surgery in any situations? Hope you’re doing well.

As I suspected: Emotional stress including depression, insomnia, stress and loneliness induce heart disease

    1. Feeling Lonely? Becoming a Plant Parent Could Help 2. There’s a post around here somewhere about positive rumination. You’re already living a lot of people’s positive rumination dream, living in Thailand! Or, 3.

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

Yes! Just saying “I have a migraine,” particularly to people who’ve never experienced one, does nothing whatsoever, does it? I’ll chime in and say I’ve also had frequent ocular migraines since I was a teenager, with the definite triggers of coffee, alcohol, MSG, most black teas except Assam...

Looking back on 6 weeks of recovery

A 2 1/2 year old post... sigh. do they ever come back and tell you what happened after the 6-week mark, or what? Maybe it means everything started going well. Hope so.

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

Same thing happened here, but i think it was because I wanted to go out of state for the surgery instead of going with either of his ‘recommended’ surgeons. Actually the first nurse I talked to, via phone consultation, at the CC told me that could happen - that your cardiologist would refuse to...

    Cleveland Clinic valves?

My surgeon essentially said, last month, the day before surgery, that he preferred to replace my valve with the on-x so I could be part of the trial to be randomized to take Eliquis (apaxiban) instead of Warfarin...

4 weeks post AVR, aorta graft and CABG - my experience

Has your incision completely healed? Mine (with just a hemisternotomy) is still open a tiny bit; it reopens every day after a shower. So frustrating. It’s been six weeks!

    Cleveland Clinic Questions

Earplugs were good to have in the step down unit, too, along with an eye mask. I was glad people here recommended them to me. Also I hung wet washcloths and towels along the rails by the windows, it was so dry in the room. And ask your np or md to order bundle care to avoid the awful...
