    Should I Have a Stent?

I had truly minimally invasive surgery for my valve replacement in February. I am 56 so didn't qualify for TAVR. I also had completely asymptomatic critical AV stenosis from a birth defect (bicuspid valve). My surgeon was great and very highly rated. My sternum was not opened in any way. He told...

    Vision Disturbances and Migraines

Hi Dan - I started having those when I turned 40. Long before my surgery. I read that it is common after age 40. Of course I am sure that long bypass time could be a cause also. I certainly have had "floaters" ever since my surgery.

How best where to research surgeons/hospitals?

If your insurance is Aetna you could come to Texas. My surgeon has frequent out of staters come. He and the university accept Aetna HMO and I am sure others.

Post AVR elevated heart rate and diastolic BP

Still trying to get coll with this. The docs say it is because my heart was used to pushing so hard to get a trickle of blood through that it became very muscular and now that it has all this blood flow the combo causes this. Did anybody else experience this?

    It Just Got Real

I was blessed to have a surgeon that was in the top 3% of cardiac surgeons nationally. And an insurance company that approved seeing him. My issue was a bicuspid valve so i do not know if that made a difference or not. Interestingly, he does not use the robot at all. He feels he can do a better...

    It Just Got Real

My surgeon at UTSW does a truly (no breast bone involvement) minimally invasive replacement procedure and he says 99% of people are a candidate for it. Let me know if you want his name. So much easier. I was back to work 1 week after surgery.

    Tissue Regrets??

I am 56 and just had my aortic valve replaced via minimally invasive surgery and I chose Bovine. I am relatively young, healthy, and active and did not want to be on blood thinners and all that entails. My surgeon expects TAVR to be available when I eventually need a replacement. Clinical...

56 and asymptomatic and in shock!

Thank you all so much. That helps incredibly. I don't feel sick at all so it is very strange. I am a side sleeper so I wonder if I need to get a recliner? Any other opinions on that? On Monday I will see a specialist at the University of texas Southwestern who is doing a truly minimally...

56 and asymptomatic and in shock!

I am now registered and wanted to thank you for your comments. What kind of surgery did you have and how was the recovery? I am desperate for some real person experiences vs. all the "text book" answers I have found during my research.
