Difference between ohs and minimally invasive avr

Size of incision is the major difference. Lower risk of infection, potentially less pain/trauma and potentially quicker recovery. And since only certain surgeons are qualified in minimally invasive you might say you get a better, more skilled surgeon.

How did you discover your valve issue?

I was around 30 and made a few unplanned trips to the ER with a-fib and thought I was dying. Thats when they found the valve issue. Was told it wouldn't be an issue for many years to come. 14 years later was when I was due for surgery. So it was what some would say was a long time, but they had...

    INR & Covid & Antibodies

Exactly, because in the end it changes nothing... and personally I wasn't debating anything. Just pointing out the facts. Seems often when people like to Florida bash they don't always know the whole truth. Often people just like to repeat what they hear others say and then lump ALL of us...

    INR & Covid & Antibodies

Ok well not what you said so... in which case Florida is still not the highest. That would be Mississippi https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/

Missed a dose. What do you do?

I mentioned to my surgeon that I don’t take any NSAIDs and that I used to need ibuprofen for occasional back pain. He said so long as it was occasional he didn’t think it would be a problem so long as I used it sparingly and watched my INR

Missed a dose. What do you do?

I knew to avoid grapefruit juice, wasn't aware of cranberry juice

Missed a dose. What do you do?

In a pinch… without Coumadin on hand would taking something like Ibuprofen be a good idea?

    Drinking alcohol on warfarin

Well if we run out of Coumadin, I have to try something... so why not

    Drinking alcohol on warfarin

So… if the worlds coumadin supply should disappear, how many beers a day will it take to maintain a 2.5 INR? Serious question 😆

    Has anyone taken Hyoscyamine?

It does work amazingly well, I will say that. Wish they had written my prescription for more, just to have them in the event I need them. They wrote me a prescription for 6 pills.

    Gag reflex warfarin

When I first started on Coumadin I wondered why it wasn't coated like some aspirins are to make them easier to swallow

    Has anyone taken Hyoscyamine?

I recently had a very small prescription for hyoscyamine (just a few days). I actually requested it for severe stomach discomfort because years ago a doctor had given it to me and it worked wonders for my over active nervous stomach that would just churn in knots and prevent me from eating for...

    Post Surgery Timeline

Don't screw yourself up. It takes 8 weeks for bone to heal. If you lift something too heavy you risk not healing properly. Theres people on this forum who say their sternum never healed properly and it gives them chronic pain now.

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

If I hadn't already added it to this thread, I think for me one of the biggest shockers was finding out that part of surgical prep meant having a stranger shave my entire body! Nobody told me that was going to be a thing. A very awkward thing

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Im not sure how Id feel about watching a video of the surgery, but it would be interesting as hell to at least have a photo of my heart when they had it exposed.
