    Chest/sternal pain

Without the advice from any doctor, and mostly out of frustration at about 10 or 12 weeks (not really sure) I decided my sternum pain was instability. No idea whether or not there was any truth to that. But in my mind the way to combat that instability was to strengthen my chest, so I did...

    Chest/sternal pain

I used to think about sternum pain a lot! I had it for several months after my surgery. I think the pain may not have always been from the bone healing. I did suspect that the pain may have been in large part to the new wires and any possible movement of the wires on and against the surrounding...

Got some disturbing news today from a new heart doctor here in Bangkok

Im no doctor, but as I understand it, when your body rejects something it is at a cellular level. When that rejection happens the cells die. A mechanical valve does not have living cells that can die.

    It makes a clicking sound

As I was laying in bed last night staring at the ceiling unable to sleep, I listened to my click, click, click, click, click, clic, click... and so on for what seemed like forever. I thought to myself, I wonder if I will ever know complete silence ever again?.. I tend to think not. Its been 6...

    It makes a clicking sound

LOL I’ve had almost the exact same experience more than once when I started just s few months after my surgery. None of my coworkers knew anything about my surgery. Leaning over someone’s computer once to explain something, they said, “wow, your watch is loud!” It took me a second to even...

    It makes a clicking sound

My On-X was much louder right after surgery. I don’t know why that is. I can say though it’s quieted down a LOT since then. Now whether or not I hear it depends on how much other sound is happening around me. One interesting thing I learned several months after surgery I had a CT scan and was...

Companies for testing supplies and INR reporting

Well what prompted me to post this question is something Im still trying to figure out. My new insurance says that I will have to meet my deductible before they pay anything towards test supplies and such, and then it pays 75% for which I have to pick up the rest. This could easily add up to a...

Companies for testing supplies and INR reporting

Oh cool thanks. Also I just logged into my Florida Blue account to see my past claims, It looks like BioTel was being reimbursed $140 out of the $880 they charge. It blows my mind how they can get away with that. Charge an extreme price then write off 85% of the dollar amount. You just now all...

What home testing service do you use?

Thanks starrman, MDINR is one I will look into. I already home test and am completely comfortable with how to do it and such, im just looking for a new company based on my insurance.

What home testing service do you use?

IF you use a service for home INR testing supplies, who monitors your results. Which company/service do some of you use? If you test at home, buy your own test strips and don't use a service Im not looking for that kind of additional input. But if you have a company who provides you that...

Companies for testing supplies and INR reporting

As I have been investigating services and finding out cost, I learned that my current service BioTel/CardioNet bills my insurance $880 a month for four tests. They provide the test strips and report the results to my Cardiologist. I found a similar service that does that exact same thing, and...

Companies for testing supplies and INR reporting

Wanted to take a quick survey and see who uses a service to report their INR test results—and also supplies them with a meter and test strips. When I first got on Coumadin 6 years ago, after valve surgery, I contacted Roche Diagnostics directly. They provided the testing machine and test strips...

    5th month anniversay lingering symptoms

Yes took me a year to fully recover also. But after 5 months I was feeling pretty good actually. I highly recommend cardiac rehab. At the very least be walking every day and trying to increase how far you walk. It takes more than just time to heal. I’d also recommend trying to get more sleep...

Pumphead - Brain Monitor - anesthesia

There’s countless articles stating it’s not real, doesn’t happen. Thats the medical community CYA if you ask me. But there are articles that disagree, not nearly as many though.

Pumphead - Brain Monitor - anesthesia

im prone to forget conversations even right afterwards sometimes. Mostly in the months after surgery, it’s improved some, but not completely. People have noticed, and said things like, “Don’t you remember, we talked about that?” I often struggle with trying to recall names of roads, places...

Pumphead - Brain Monitor - anesthesia

Ive been put "under" several times for different surgeries over the years. Is there is a cumulative effect from anesthesia?... maybe?... don't know. I do know my short term memory isn't what it used to be, I might think its from being on bypass for valve replacement surgery. Obviously I can't...

    Can I take flu shot?

I asked my GP after my surgery if I needed things like flu shots now, as I never used to get them before. He just said, it’s up to me. That if I don’t typically get the seasonal flu, I’m probably fine. Still have never had a flu shot

Comprehensive list of foods and their Vitamin K content?

Coming to this a bit late in the thread, but here is a list I used to refer to quite often when I first got on Coumadin. I rarely refer to it anymore but its still a great resource https://www.drgourmet.com/md/relativewarfarinlist.pdf
