    Never give up!

Patr83 I am very glad for you. May I ask, what was the lesion, stenosis, regurgitation, or both?

    aneurysm?!

    Hello Fellow BAV Repair Peeps

minpin Well my source is that many people even with severe AR were asymptomatic, based on their stories. Also the clinical recommendations call for surgery only in severe and symptomatic population, if their heart dimensions are not calling for surgery. On the other hand, I've read about...

    Hello Fellow BAV Repair Peeps

Sure, I am a possible future patient and want to know what to expect. Also, as I said, having symptoms is not common with moderate regurgitation.

    Hello Fellow BAV Repair Peeps

Hi minpin, congratulations on your surgery. What symptoms did you have? Moderate regurgitation should not be symptomatic, AFAIK.

New member with the usual dilemma

pellicle Here's the first video result from the google - the article and the surgery video. The surgeon here doesn't use template though, which is the original method. https://www.ctsnet.org/article/aortic-valve-repair-all-cusp-replacement-using-treated-autologous-pericardium-ozaki

New member with the usual dilemma

they have cut the pericardium but I assume they have not stopped the heart or have you on bypass - yes. how long does it take to manfacture that in situ (with you open) - I'd say 5-10 minutes for the leaflets. any data on post surgical complications such as infections - I have no reliable data...

New member with the usual dilemma

They place metal template on a piece of pericardium and cut the leaflets, then put them into glutaraldehyde for a couple of minutes, rinse, and voila.

New member with the usual dilemma

j42195 My 2 cents. For me, Ozaki is out of question, if the annulus is large. A respectable surgeon told me that, and I see no reasons to disbelieve him here. I guess the same applies to Ross, because there will be no tissue strengthening structures in the valve. As for the worse survival with...

50M, severe regurgitation, confused about symptoms?

IMO the thing with the heart is it doesn't respond with pain when overloaded, and it doesn't recover a lot after it is damaged, if any, so basically after surgery people live with what has left of their heart by the moment of the surgery. Again, it may just stop with no ill effects... Not...

50M, severe regurgitation, confused about symptoms?

Actually it's in the high normal range. BNP is a marker of a struggling myocardium.

    Surgery timing

Hello, AFAIK the limit for surgery on aorta with BAV is 5, not 5.5 cm. The guidelines for severity and LV dilatation are quite old now, I'd surrender myself to surgery earlier, if a good treatment was available. What symptoms do you have? Your EF is normal.

Howdy everyone! Just found this site.

What I meant is that I'm afraid it's too easy to just feel happy surviving the surgery and almost innocently forget about the remaining nuisances related to health. Also, I guess it's in the american mentality to downplay personal problems in public. :)

    Mechanical Bentall Resources

My hero on this site is Superbob, who had two Bentalls (bio) due to aneurysm and AR and quite recently said that his heart was OK, in his eighties.

    Severe Regurgitation and Blood Pressure

Hi, I found this article interesting. Elite athlete with at least moderate AR and a severely dilated left ventricle had normal BP. Could it be, that his normal BP was from his meds? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10157104/

By the way... Was removal of the tubes any painful? I hear different stories on that.

Severe aortic regurgitation and now mild mitral regurgitation

Left ventricle dilatation affects mitral valve, which starts closing worse, it's called mitralisation of the aortic insufficiency. If the aortic insufficiency is dealt with in a timely fashion, dilatation often regresses, and the mitral valve works better again.

Congratulations and thanks from the future potential patient. Your future occasional feedback here is also very welcome.
