In Network vs Out of Network

When you have company insurance, it costs to go out of network clinic or hospital. In network, not so bad on cost.

    How often are we testing?

I do fine at the lab I go to, for they use the CoaguChek, so it is always accurate, and when the reading is too high, they get me to the regular lab for a blood draw. And we retest one to two weeks when the numbers are too high, just every 4 two 6 weeks when it is in normal range.

    Bumps around chest scar

Get your doctor to look at that, not normal after OHS.

exercising and travel after valve replacement

Walking is what they want you do, and on the flying, be sure to stretch the legs before you sit down on the flight. One hour is not hard on a OHS patient.

I meant OHS=open heart surgery. My mistake. Oops.

    Sub-aortic Stenosis in small kids

I was born with something similar. With the Aortic valve and murmur. I was 8 in 1973 when I had repair and they were barely working on other types of surgery, like on newborns. Years later, at 36 years old, I had a aortic valve replacment and it took the murmur away. It can always come back. But...

    Asymptomatic vs. Symptomatic

I had that before OPS to replace the aortic valve. It was scary to hear the murmur get so loud in the echo. But felt better after surgery.

    Asymptomatic vs. Symptomatic

Nothing to be laughing about in the progression into severe aortic stenosis. This is serious and not to be taken lightly, for OPS is coming soon.

I was told when I was getting ready for surgery, the muscles take a year to heal completely, and it is a true fact.

    47 year anniversary

I can't forget mine surgery at 8 years old, was Halloween, the same week, on Halloween watched the Sonny and Cher show, Halloween special. And was in ICU for a week. It was in 1973. Repair bypass at that time. Years later at 36 years old, have the valve replacement in 2001, over a year after...

Does what generic pharmaceutical company used make a difference?

Depends on many factors, including the contract with the manufacturer. Sometimes the pharmacy will change with a different manufacturer after a contract is over. But it is still generic Warfarin and is the same drug, same ingredients, but a different manufacturer.

Does what generic pharmaceutical company used make a difference?

I have had no problems with the differences of the manufacturers of Warfarin. For it depends on diet, physical activity and OTS medications that affect my Protime.

    Lifting Weights after Surgery

The thing on the weight restriction is that it takes the muscles and the sternum one year to heal, and that takes time. Not that everyone is different, it takes a year for your body to heal from the surgery. Muscles are in trauma from the cutting and the sternum from the separation of the rib...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

as long as they are not worried, you should be fine. Getting the INR ranges are hard at first. It will stabilize soon; you are just out of the hospital and will be getting into routine. When you are settled for a time, the INR will settle down also. Just relax and it will all be fine.

Welcome to the best support system online, or really say the whole universe, where we can agree, or agree to disagree. You are welcome here. I had OHS like you, I have a St. Jude's aortic leaflet valve and still here. You will be also. No sweat. Glad to have you onboard.

    Self dosing question

Never just self dose without knowing your INR Number. Just do the dose as you have been and wait till your next lab Protime. They know what they are doing.

I would have the valve replaced. For the old one is malfunctioning and needs replacing ASAP.
