4 Days to decide between bio and mechanical aortic valve

The article you cite pushed me to go with the tissue valve but it is certainly not an easy decision. One important point that swayed me was that a mechanical valve does not lower the rate of reoperation due to the probability of side effects of warfarin. This is often an argument for the...

bovine pericardial tissue valves and crestor/ rosuvastatin

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5449535/#!po=2.08333 its a rat study, but the valves were pericardial tissue valves and crestor had a profound effect on preserving the integrity of them. This is significant because we just dont have much human research in this area.

    Met with "genetic counselor"

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5465157/ check this recent research. It claims LONG TERM lipid lowering lowers lpa. Also the type of statin may be important. The current study demonstrated that long-term statin therapy significantly decreased the Lp (a) levels in CAD patients...

Hi Steve, thanks for that information. I guess measuring heart rate probably wont make a lot of sense. Ive already noticed a difference. I think perceived exertion might be the better option.

Exercise how much is too much?

Hi Anne and thanks. Your right about listening to ones body. I got to thinking reading your thread where Steve mentioned beta blockers. I am on tenolol a bb and I am thinking that heart rate exercise just might be something that won't work with the way bb's slow it down and all. He seems to...

    Met with "genetic counselor"

Hi, the below article from AHA discusses high lp(a) and strongly indicates that ldl lowering and Niacin are important therapuetically for those with your condition If I were in your shoes I would demand 40 mg. Of crestor ( the highest dose of the most potent statin) and the highest dose of...

Exercise how much is too much?

I used to do HIIT Training and now feeling good 4 months post op I thought I'd give it a try. With HIIT for anyone not familiar you go hard for a minute or two getting your heart rate up to around 90% of max. I am 64 and I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on this. I mean is it wise or just...

Not Sure How To Feel - But Mostly Fear, Shame, Selfishness And Guilt Right Now

The calcification thing is certainly related to injury. In my own case I had rheumatic fever in childhood which left my aortic valve scarred. Similiar to what happens to a coronary artery the process of calcification began and progressed throughout my life. I knew eventually it, the valve, would...

AVS and Lp(a) -- how well known?

Not many 40 year olds your right about that for sure, but lifestyle does take its toll on our valves as well as our arteries, but again as you say genetics is oftentimes the biggest factor, afterall most people with bad habits never get valve disease to the point they need OHS even in old age...

Looks like I'm taking the 4th quarter off of work

Yeah I fully understand your positive outlook. Its great you feel that way and its very realistic. What they can do today is just amazing! I was terrified my whole life with the prospect of OHS and then I went through it 3 1/2 months ago and was so surprised that it just was not so bad as I...

    Strange Sleeping Issues

Very possible. Anxiety can cause a lot of false symptoms especially heart stuff. The asthma thing could be sleep apnea. Do you snore? I had symptoms all my life similiar to yours, especially shortness of breath and palpitations. I realized they were psychosomatic and learned to ignore them...
