    Howdy - AVR coming up!

DJ-Rae09, Best wishes to you on a successful procedure. This is a good site to hear stories from people who have been through it. I had my first BAV replacement in 2001 at the age of 37. I was reading more stories then about complaints with the noise of mechanical valves and there wasn't any...

Severe Aortic Regurgitation Leading to Second Surgery

We are heading to Jamaica next week for 4 days, also just rest and relaxation. 2/7 surgery, so it will be 10.5 weeks. I feel ready to go physically but I bought extra travel insurance for piece of mind.

Returning to exercise after valve surgery

I am in week 7 now. My activities are much tamer than many of you heavy hitters. For any OHS vets who like to golf, when did you comfortably start doing that? My plan is to start swinging the clubs at the range at 12 weeks, with the hopes that everything works smoothly after that.

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

    Replaced aortic valve

Amanda, I am in week 6 from my second OHS, and yes, the first couple weeks are the toughest without a doubt, but it gets better and I have found the time to go fast. So far, everything is going well and I have followed all advice from my physicians to try to avoid any setbacks. So far so good.

    aortic valve replacement

I cannot disagree with anything already said in response, but I have not gone with mechanical. I am 58 and just had my second OHS 2/7/22 due to an aortic aneurysm. I was 37 when I first replaced my aortic valve and I went with a homograft rather than a mechanical valve. It lasted 21 years and...

    Newbie ascending aorta aneurysm

I had a similar experience. My cardiologist never advised me about any connection between BAV and ascending aortic aneurysm, and for years, he never had the echo tech look that high. He scared the bleep out of me in 2018 when they first discovered my aneurysm at 4.9 cm. Then I was referred to...

46yrs old male in UK with BAV / Aneurysm - advised today that surgery needs to be within next 2/3 months. Scared

Rich, Sounds like you will do well after recovery from this surgery. I am 58 and in decent shape but nowhere near your athleticism, and things have gone well after 4 weeks. Best wishes to you. As Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part.

49 with BAV replacement happening in 4 days (Mar 9 2022)

All the best to you djman! I am 4 weeks out from ascending aneurysm repair and valve replacement. Modern medicine is amazing. Things have gone pretty well so far. You should do great!

Regular checkups after heart valve replacement?

I second Superman's thoughts. I have never really had any symptoms from my BAV or aneurysm, so the follow ups and diagnostics studies were key in advising me when to schedule the second surgery. Aortic aneurysm can be a silent killer for those who don't follow it.

New here - BAV replacement scheduled for 2/9/22

Chris, Best wishes for your quick recovery at home. I had my surgery on 2-7-22 and I too am at home recovering. Feeling stronger every day and hoping for continued improvement. It has felt great to be home for this.

    Born-Again Valver

Pellicle, you post fine examples of things I have missed in my years away. I appreciate your posts in response to me. I wish homografts were readily available and easy to use. I have grown to love mine and I will certainly miss it. Cheers!

    Born-Again Valver

Thanks Pellicle. I expect I would have a mechanical now too if I had your history. From an older and yet newer eye here, I don't disagree with you, but you do tend to come off a bit strong-handed in your opinions. And you are correct that my normal with the homograft did not keep me on this...

    Born-Again Valver

Paulk, Welcome back! I too am born again here, after a hiatus of almost 20 years. I am scheduled for ascending aortic aneurysm surgery and likely aortic valve replacement 2-7-22 (wow, that's just 4 days away), although my homograft continues to do its job 21 years after insertion. From my own...
