    Staying the Course -- 11-28-2016

Hi Superbob, Speaking of Chinese food, before my surgery my wife and I ordered take out Chinese. I happened to have my heart monitor on and when I unloaded the monitor data later, I was surprised to see an increase in my heart rate just after eating the Chinese food. Research shows that MSG in...

    Progression Time

Nocturne, First, keep in mind: everyone is different, progression varies with individuals, echo test results vary depending on many variables, and you pay more attention to your heart sounds once you know you have AO. I first heard I had a heart mummer in 2007 when I was 64 years old. I had...

    Staying the Course -- 11-14-2016

Just thought I would share this with my OHS friends: Got on the scale the other day. Didn't like what I saw so I had a banana for breakfast, traded cardiac rehab for a membership in a more local fitness center, and increased my workout time. That was the good part. Bad news is I spent more...

Just a short note to say that I'm staying the course, too. I do check in to hear from friends. Working too hard this week, but not eating junk food or sweets. Except that ice cream my wife made tonight, and those marshmallows my grandkids made,. Oh, then there was those dark chocolate covered...

When did you start feeling ok?

To answer your question: 'When did I start feeling OK?", one must define "OK" first. If you mean "OK, I'm not doing to die soon." I felt OK when I woke from the surgery. f you mean "OK", I'm feel stronger than I did before surgery: "I would say about 3 to 5 weeks." If you mean "OK, I have a...

What were the signs that lead you to OHS?

No Title Heart mummer detected in 2007, Aortic stenosis diagnosis soon afterwards. Monitoring until July 2016 when the EKG results during a stress test in the cardiologists' office gave the doctor grave concern. He said I could not go home, but rather had to go to the hospital and have surgery...

    Staying the Course -- 10-17-2016

Been tardy for a few weeks on the forum. Sorry I'm doing cardio rehab three times a week for a month. I was away last week and when I went today, I realize that it is good to do this regularly. The body does not do well without regular exercise. After rehab is over, I need to find a place to...

    6 week milestone

Thanks Honeybunny. Catie, I started cardiac rehab last week, which was 5 weeks post op. For me, it is not much. They put me con a treadmill for 10 minutes, a peddle bike device for 10 minutes and a arm and peddle device for 10 minutes. Max heart rate was 107. When I was cutting down trees, my...

    6 week milestone

Six weeks post op. I feel great and stronger than before surgery. Today, after cardio rehab, I used my chainsaw to cut down a dead tree. My tissue valve which is a combination of pig and cow is working fine! You gotta give modern medicine credit.

SB, great news about your wife's test results. Paleogirl, Trip to France? Vacation or other reasons? Steve, when I see your signature showing: "9 Years in The Waiting Room," I often wonder how did you do that? I thought it was bad enough for me to be in the waiting room for the past two years...

    Mech Valve Coping Survey

After following this post since it started, I thought I might provide additional information. I know the original question was about the sound a mechanical valve makes and the writer's sensitivity to a clicking valve. I wanted to point out that one should not assume that tissue valves are...
