    Staying the Course -- 11/13/2017

Just checking in. Hope SB a good day and speedy finger recovery. I relate to dealing with bulging discs Ann. Wish you well in managing it. Also wish Jwinter better days. You must be concern not knowing exactly what you are dealing with. I often wonder if it is the beta blocker I'm on that is...

Steve, what a wonderful explanation. I posed the question somewhat in humor, but your explanation is serious and why chips are not on my diet .

    Staying the Course -- 11/06/2017

It is nice to hear from everyone - dealing with changing time, winter coming, Dr visits giving better news than bad news. Like Steve, I had a few days of my "wife-away" diet (she and daughter did a four day trip to Seattle). Yes, I fell off the healthy eating wagon. This does pose a...

    Staying the Course -- 10--30--2017

Last time somebody came to our place to trick or treat was 1984. One of the benefits of living in the country. Since we don't buy candy, it helps staying on the course. Happy Halloween everyone.

SB, the cookies were some kind of wedding cookie with a big dab of chocolate in the middle. A "friend" brought them for us yesterday from a wedding they attended. Deadly. Real friends do not let friends eat cookies. But I can't eat them while making pots or I'll end up eating clay, for my...

    Staying the Course -- 10--02--2017

Due to the tech errors in the site, I'll make this short. Getting old - dealing with failing body parts, suck. I'm spending lots of time in wife's pottery studio making pots. Not eating contributes to weight loss. Eating cookies does not. Since the next button does not work, will anybody see...

    Staying the Course -- 09--25--2017

Checking in late. Got back from my trip to FL. Worked two days in extreme heat putting tarps on roofs, picking up down branches, fixing blown out windows and down awings. I don't know how people live, or work outside in FL in the summer. It was horrid. I would be outside for less than an hour...

    4 Days Out

My experience was that sleeping was a problem for about a week after surgery. It helps to sleep when you can. It will get better, but not until you get home. Welcome to the other side.

Nice to see your post SB. I'm envious of your execerise class. It is nice to get compliments and good feedback. As for for experiencing a colonoscopy, done that! I can only say I'm glad it was behind me (yes that was a pun). The good news , jwinter, is that there was nothing found. I have...

Hey, superbob, you can't give up. My world will not be the same without your posts.

    Staying the Course -- 09-04-2017

Hello everyone. Looks like I'm in good company with the waking up in the wee hours of the night and not being able to get back to sleep. I relate to SB's thought of money and retirement, Anne's worries taking on another force at that time, and Jwinter's notice of the quite time. I actually like...

    4 days out!

Welcome to the other side. Recovering gets only better with time. Sounds like you had a great surgery team. Be kind to yourself for a few weeks.

    Staying the Course -- 08--21--17

Wishing my Texas heart valve friends safe and sound. Wow, I can't imagine 30 inches of rain. My wife and I are heading to SuuperBob's area tomorrow for a weeks stay at a friend's home in North Topsail Beach, NC. Now that company is gone, we are back to our predominantly plant based diet...

    Staying the Course -- 08--14--17

For Steve, I relate to the visitation of family. My son came to drop his daughter off at a nearby college. Then my daughter from Western MA came and she brought with her two device attached children, two dogs and a friend. It was just five minutes after she arrived that the dogs ran out the...

    Staying the Course -- 08--14--17

Hi All, Missed everyone last week. I was disconnected. First I was on a trail with my son for three days. We hiked 30 miles over three days (Wed - Fri) and a total of over 6,000 ft elevation gain (not much). It was tough on my 73 year old body. Late day 1I had a big toenail issue and that...

    Staying the Course -- 07-31-2017

Hi Folks, Late in posting for last week. I understand Steve's comments on grandkids visiting. His are younger, but I remember the days of that age grandkids. You love seeing them and you love seeing them go home. Our older ones have kept us busy the past few weeks. Noise, activity, and the...

    Staying the Course -- 07-24-2017

Hi Folks, Just checking in. Wanted to share a thought with others: be careful what you write, you might just influence others. Honeybunny's post last week contained a pointer to a diet called the DASH diet. It is basically a plant diet. I read that, shared it with my wife, and it lead me to...

July 22 - One year anniversary

Thanks those of you who replied to my 1 year anniversary. I find it interesting that members on this group represent people from around the world: US (near Chicago), New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. Even though we live in different parts of the world, the heart issues we deal with bring us...

    Severity of stenosis

Hi Ann, Based on my research in the past year, you are correct in understanding that a valve area under 1.0 cm2 is classified as severe. However, I suspect you already know that there are other variables they also used to classify stenosis...

July 22 - One year anniversary

One year ago today around this time (6:00 pm) I was being wheeled out of surgery with a new aortic valve. Think I will drink to that.
