    Coaguchek test strips

I just recently got my CoaguChek XS monitor yesterday. My insurance covers six strips/month with lacets and the small tubes to help suck up the blood. I have seen test strips sold in bulk on Amazon for considerably cheaper than what it would cost be through the company to buy extra strips. The...

    INR drops with excercise

This also may be why I am having a hard time staying in range. I am supposed to stay in 2.5-3.0. My most recent INRs were 1.8 and 1.6 respectively. I too have been increasing my cardiovascular exercise and just recently began lifting weights again. I don't know what else could be lowering my INR...

Does physical training makes AI, BAV, LV hypertrophy, and/or aortic aneurysms worse?

Anyone have any medical journals, publications, and/or resources available that may contribute to evidence that intense physical training (high intensity interval training, long runs, weight bearing exercise, lifting) contributes to the more rapid onset of adverse symptoms regarding BAV, severe...

    Nerve pain in leg?

It has been a 13 weeks since my 2nd OHS and this time they made an incision in my groin to access my femoral in case they had to use it. Once I began walking in the hospital, I would have this terrible, hot, stinging pain that would last until after a few minutes of walking around. Now at 13...

How many would say that you're in the best shape of your life?

Pellicle, I forgot to respond to you in a question you asked me a while back in this thread. I do use a fitbit when I exercise, but I don't usually wear it other than that. PM me if your interested in obtaining some data.

    Exercising Post Op

I was just about to mention gymguy. After responding in this post yesterday I actually wanted to go do a few things with weights and see how I felt. I looked back at his posts and found what he was doing and where he was at around the mark that I am at now. He does seem to be doing very well and...

    Exercising Post Op

Had my surgery 8 weeks ago. My surgeon told me I could start lifting again around my 12 week post op mark. He emphasized using a weight where I could do at least 15 reps per set. I argued back and forth with him (while under heavy medication, so he probably was laughing after he left the room)...

How many would say that you're in the best shape of your life?

Yesterday was 8 weeks since I got my mechanical valve. 2 days ago I completed a 3 mile run in 32 minutes. I wasn't even close to being where I'm at right now after my first OHS in 2012. I really feel like everything has been fixed this time and blood is flowing the right way and not back into my...

    Getting Tattoos while on Anti-Coagulants

I got my first tattoo about two months before I had my first OHS. Got my second 1 1/2 years after that same surgery. Any respectable shop I've ever walked in all had to adhere to health codes and inspections in order to operate. The artist I've used in the past is a clean freak and had no...

How many would say that you're in the best shape of your life?

Good to hear all the replies. I am really happy with my progress so far. I'm about 2.5 weeks out since surgery and I completed 3.5 miles on the treadmill (2.25 miles w/ moderate incline at 3.5 mph, and 1.25 miles no incline 4mph "shuffle") total duration was around 1 hour. HR maxed at around 178...

Bicuspid valve and low ejection fraction?

My found out I had BAV back in 2011 and had a normal EF. By Spring 2012, my EF had gotten to the low 40%. At that point that is when my cardiologist knew it was time for a valve replacement. I had severe aortic regurgitation because of the BAV.

    Getting Tattoos while on Anti-Coagulants

Well this question has nothing to do with how anti-coagulants work or anything like that. I am curious if there is anyone on this site that has gotten tattooed since being on anti-coags. I have two half sleeve tattoos and want more down the road. I know this is going to be a case by case basis...

How many would say that you're in the best shape of your life?

I've read many stories of people who have made claims that they've been able to get in the best shape of their life after heart valve replacement. I assume because after a successful surgery, our heart finally is pumping and working the way it should be, which should mean it is more efficient...

First week on warfarin, a couple things I've noticed

Since I posted this last week I haven't had any more of those symptoms. Guess I just got a little overly-concerned since I'm new to warfarin. My INR was 1.8 two days ago so now on 10mg all week and maybe I'll hit my 2.5-3 range next visit or two.

What is the one thing you couldn't live without during post-surgery recovery?

My back was extremely tight and sore following surgery, so I purchased a shaitsu massage chair w/ built in heat from a Brookstone store (about $100 if I remember correctly) and it was a huge help. Helped improve my posture and not feel so slumped over from having the tight chest incision. I also...

First week on warfarin, a couple things I've noticed

Got my mechanical valve last week and have been on warfarin for about a week now. Currently a bit low on the INR on my last blood test, but I'm alternating between 10mg and 7.5 mg doses each day until my next blood test. This week I've only noticed a couple things that I'm not sure I can...

One Week Post-Op from second OHS

Well I would've posted an update a little sooner but I honestly just didn't feel like it, haha. So I had my second OHS last Thursday on 15 January. I chose a mechanical valve this time (ended up getting the ATS....St. Judes was first option but doc said he didn't like the way it was going to...

Anyone here had a trans radial catheterization?

I have a preoperative appointment on January 9th to have a trans radial catheterization in order to get a better look at my coronary arteries. I didn't have to do this on my first OHS and I am just wondering if anyone else has had this done prior to their OHS. I'm not worried about it, but just...

Surgery date set for my 2nd OHS, going mechanical this time

So when I had the Ross Procedure in July 2012 I had a follow up echo with the surgeon about a month after which had pretty normal results for a one month post op patient. Around October 2012 I was pretty much back to easing in to all my normal activities which included moderate to heavy weight...
