    Wafarin and shaving?

So I I did electric after surgery for about 9 months. I found electric shaving to be a little too raw on my skin, using Lectric Shave and a high end Braun shaver known for its smooth shaves. I never shave on Sundays to give my skin a rest. For the last 9ish months I do 2 weeks electric then 2...

2nd opinion now or later for Aortic aneurism?

I have seen that more and more DRs are leaning toward physical size and also lowering the aneurysm size threshold. When I was at 5.2, local surgeon said do it as did Cleveland clinic as stats are starting to show doing it sooner and smaller reduces risk and provides for better outcome. I can say...

2nd opinion now or later for Aortic aneurism?

Yeah if this is ascending aortic, 5.2 is time to get done generally. Some docs will say 5.5, it will depend on how much it is changing. Not sure what the guidelines for thoracic is, but when I read ascending I usually hear it as refectences as the aortic that leaves the heart and arches back...

Possible Second OHS due to Aortic Valve being small from previous surgery

AMEN! I wanted my DR to do whatever he felt was right and he wanted full crack and I was fine with it, with nurseryman replacement graft they like as much space as they can get to see everything. My recovery was great and 15 months later the damn tube scars are worse than the entire sternum...

    INR quandary

What was your daily dose before the 1.8 reading? Clearly that seems like it needs to be increased. I don't buy that a single 7.5 then 5 every day will do much. Whatever your standard dose was before you got 1.8 you need to increase a bit and stick with that give it 3-5 days and test again. For...

    Stupid scheduler ever

Yeah I am going round and round about MRI with pacing wires, not the valve. I was told every time I need an MRI I need chest xray to confirm placement of wires and to confirm they are not touching, if they are touching no MRI.

On-X trial for warfarin alternative treatment

Odd, I was on metoprolol for probably almost a year post-op and I did not find any side effects. They do the beta blocker to protect the healing heart as it help with any PVC or irregular beats. It also help contain the strain of any sudden adrenaline increases to the heart. I had to do...

On-X trial for warfarin alternative treatment

I thought the daily aspirin was needed if the target INR is 1.5-2.0? I have been doing 81mg enteric coated aspirin for more than 25 years without issue and have maintained that with my On-X (14 months now) with a target INR of 2.0-3.0. I do not believe my cardio required me to take it as I was...

    dentist

Yeah, my dentist considers me a high risk due to my valve and warfarin and will not see me unless it is an emergency, which is fine with me.

    Νew sternal closure methods

I don;t know. It feel like an erector set looking at this. I would also think the plates may make future echos, CTs or MRIs challenging. I am sure the recover is better, but I already feel the top wire they used to close me, would hate to think what this feels like. I am a big fan of the...

On-X trial for warfarin alternative treatment

I received a Lerner in the mail for a new trial for On-X aortic valve folks to,try an alternative to warfarin. Did anyone else receive this? Sound interesting, bit not sure a possible twice daily pill is better than warfarin...

I have been Vi 5 deficient for years and take 10,000IU 5 days a week ad that gets me a reading of 47, i have bumped that up to 6 days a week now to help keep my Vit D level elevated. Are we high risk?

There have been recent reports that outside jogging, biking, etc without a mask while social distancing is extremely low risk. All the newer reports are about the viral load you get and passing by someone outside is not a high risk. Indoors gatherings are the higher risk. I would think a mask...

    Staying the Course -- May 11, 2020

I agree, but it is a calculated risk.with safety precautions. I know her paranoid tendencies align with mine vs. some hair dresser that my be clubbing at nigh with no mask. Heck I just went o Home Depot and we left, half the employees (including cashiers) were not masked, half the customers and...

    Staying the Course -- May 11, 2020

without getting political, all I am saying is everything today is extremely polarized and partisan, not going to take side, just observing what is going on. The US people need to be u irked in this fight for the virus just like they were after 9/11. and it is not just the virus. People used to...

    dentist

And I don’t go to supermarket either. I do either curbside contactless pickup or delivery. Also at a supermarket I would wear a mask, not site with my mouth open as a catch basin. The valve itself is not as much an underlying condition as the risk if you get the virus badly. The balance between...

    dentist

I believe that is the ADA guideline, a N/KN95 mask covered by a ASTM Level 3 mask and then a face shield. I would be shocked to find any dentist not doing that as it would likely open them up to litigation if someone gets sick as a good lawyer would have a field day then.
