    Chest wound plaster

i had staples for my incision, which were removed at 10 days post op. my incision was quite healed at 10 days and only a few drain holes were still healing, until about week 3. I was told by the nurse to let it breathe to accelerate the healing and there were no bandages covering wound 2 weeks...

    A Fib disappointment / Setback

I met with my OHS surgeon today for a review, 5 weeks post OHS. He checked via my wrist and assures me that i am back in sinus rhythm today. Surgeon seems to think i will only need the Lixiana and Metoprolol for a few months, whereas the cardiologist seemed to say Lixiana for life.

    A Fib disappointment / Setback

Pekster, were you recently diagnosed with Afib? I met with my cardiologist 2 weeks ago and at 3 weeks post surgery. To my surprise the cardilologist EKG indicated Afib. The cardiologist described it as Ventricular Afib. I was immediately prescribed a daily dose of Lixiana 60Mg and the...

First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

You seem to be edging close to a hospital discharge. My discharge was also delayed about a day for drainage discharge. They may have pulled the drains a day early In your case. I also had major tasting issues, yes for weeks any salt was so accentuated and unpleasant, including butter etc. But...

    Mental recovery

Welcome to the forum Ozo. I am also 3 weeks post ohs and i have always felt, that the waiting room pre-op is the worst on mental and optimism, as most of the scheduling is out of our control, admittance, surgery etc. I have now had surgery twice and both times post surgery, it is progressing...

    2nd OHS at 67 April 26/2021

It is a little strange that they worked drain holes around the hernia, which is pretty much on my solar plexus, but did not address the hernia itself. in June, there will be an evaluation done on a Pancreatic cyst and a potential for further surgery. it may be reevaluated at that time.

    2nd OHS at 67 April 26/2021

Yes, I agree on a preference for an extract sooner than later. I saw the dentist on day 8 post surgery and may have shocked him some. am hoping for a timetable when I see the dentist Tuesday next. Have been on Penicillin for 10 days already and currently continuing. Although my molar root is...

Back On Track For Paravalvular Leak Closure

Yowsirs Blake, it sounds like pretty much every heart valve, will have been tweaked or replaced by the time you are done here. am I right in reading you have an OnX Aortic mech from a previous surgery? Are you about 60 years old? all the best on your preparation for these next procedures.

    2nd OHS at 67 April 26/2021

Yes, i likely cracked the root while under anesthetic for my OHS. So yes a dental extract is being delayed a while the heart heals some, because of the risk of infection, What i am unsure of is how long we can safely maintain the Penicillin protocol moving forward. It is working so far, with no...

    St Jude Trifecta failure

Julie, in my recent experience, your surgeon armed with tests like Echo, CT Scan, chest X-ray and possibly more, will be in the best position to present the pros and cons. I went into surgery with a preference for a bio, but an understanding that I would be mech, if the surgical team thought it...

    St Jude Trifecta failure

Welcome ParksJU, you have kicked off another heathy debate, on mech/bio/SAVR/TAV I am 6 months younger than you are and have just undergone replacement of a failing SJM ESP bio valve. My valve did just over 10 years. My surgeon is convinced, our individual bio composition,is the primary factor...

    Did you have a follow-up echo 4-6 weeks post-op?

Amy, it truly sounds like you have lost confidence in your cardio? i am scheduled to see my cardio next week, and yes i expect an electrocardiogram, a revue of the hospital prescribed meds and a minimal exam. If no murmur is detected, other than forming a baseplate, not sure what an echo would...

    2nd OHS at 67 April 26/2021

Careful of the attachment if squeamish An 8 day old zipper, it is not pretty but it is functional. This afternoon i am scheduled for the staple removals, at 10 days post Op. Pluck, pluck and repeat for 37. I actually developed a hernia a few months post op, on the drain holes from 11 years ago...
