    Exercising Post Op

Thanks, Anne...gotta get some weights like you have and start a program. I do the walking, but I need to work with weights too especially for my left leg, which is noticeably weak and somewhat atrophied due to a severe sciatica attack years ago.

AVR 4/23/15 - Tissue or Mechanical

My surgeon is convinced that by the time I might need a tissue valve replacement, that TAVR, even multiple TAVRs, will be the norm. Based upon his strong recommendation I went with tissue valve at age 66.

Valve choice when combined with an aorta repair - does this change the equation?

I opted for a tissue valve (S.t Jude "Trifecta") in combination with a dacron graft all the way up to the underneath of the arch (hemiarch). My surgeon recommended this for me (age 66.) I also had two CABG grafts sewn into the dacron. I think it is correct that the choice of valve type is...

    Cooker's Throwdown Friday .... 4-3-2015

Cooker, the magic bullet for me was totally about carbs. Basically I eliminated almost all carbs and that worked. If you can stand to give up all the carb goodies you might try that and see if it works. MY daily biy meals: breakfast: oatmeal with skim and spenda, NO TOAST; lunch salad or veggies...

Illustration: Surgeon Draws Diagram Showing Work Done

I asked my surgeon, Dr, Garyson Wheatley at Temple University hospital in Philadelphia, to indicate where my dacron ascending aorta hemiarch graft was placed, and where he put the two CABG grafts. While I have no coronary artery blockage, the CABG grafts were necessary because my native coronary...

    follow up with surgeon

Sounds like a good report, Chris. Congratulations. I met with my surgeon last week and that went well too. THe new valve sounds fine. I got him to draw on a heart diagram where he put the dacron grafts and the CABG grafts. Very interesting. I have a lot of new plumbing. Hope it all holds together.

    Natural or Mechanial

My surgeon and cardio both highly recommended a tissue valve for me at age 66. They are all of the opinion that TAVR will be routine by the time I might need a replacement. Sure, there are no guarantees, but they seem convinced of it. I trusted them with my life in the OR, so I don't mind...

    Metoprolol

My cardio discontinued my Metoprolol one month after surgery. I have no heart rate or BP issues. 24 hours after I took the last dose I noticed a substantial increase in my energy and pep. I am glad to be rid of it and i hope I can stay off of it. I have a tissue valve.
