    Staying the Course -- 04/29/19

SB, glad that you have selected a surgeon in whom you have confidence. This week I'm at our small cottage out on Fire Island getting the house ready for summer. Next week we're traveling to Japan for our third vacation there. Previous trips to Japan were in 1986 and around 1995. I've been...

Wow, Superbob...you've been an inspiration with 14 years on a tissue valve. This begs the question: if you have aneurysm surgery now what about the valve? Will that be replaced at the same time? You're in my thoughts.

Checking in...hello to all...SB glad the Medicare thing worked out for your wife. The new web interface here seems great. I'm A-OK just saw my cardio four years out and all is ship shape, except for some knee issues related to age :(

In shock - 12 great years later, just discovered I need another OHS

HI Kristine, Sorry to read that your prosthetic valve is failing, but it can be fixed. That's the good news. You write that you were initially diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm: "During a routine physical at the end of March that year, I was diagnosed with a badly leaking aortic valve and an...

Three Years Post Op - Great Echo Report

My cardio is amazed at the low gradient three years out. Bodes well for longevity of the St. Jude Trifecta valve in patients who get it or similar tissue valves in their 60s. Photo taken in March in St. barthelemy after i completed a series of seven scuba dives. Jim Aortic valve: Valve mean...

Happy New Year everyone. Happy birthday Martin F. We're in the midst of a terrible cold spell here in Philadelphia. The Schuylkill River is frozen solid. No relief until next week it seems. I picked up some weight on our QM2 transatlantic crossing before Xmas but I have been able to pull it back...

Steve wrote: "I hope your HR doesn't get too low..." Well, it's 49-50 pretty much all the time at rest and only gets to about 105 with exercise. My surgeon mentioned the possibility of a pacemaker when I saw him last. I don't know how low it has to get before it's time for a pacemaker. Jim

    Post Surgery Quality of Life

I have been told no restrictions whatsoever except for "heavy" weight lifting, pretty much defined as lifting that would cause you to strain. I confine my lifting to 25 and 35 lb dumbbells. I also returned to scuba diving post-surgery and I am an active diver today.

    Back in waiting room again

Sorry to read all of the not good news, Anne. Wow, 19mm. I asked my surgeon to go large as possible in case I need TAVR later. You are in my thoughts. Jim

    TAVR (new study results)

What you and I will need is a study focusing TAVR in patients with replacement prosthetics like our St. Jude Trifectas.

    Staying the Course -- 04-25-2016

Happy new week to all. I have an echo today and meet my surgeon for the one year out check up. I'm feeling fine so I don't expect any surprises. I did pick up a few lbs on our recent cruise ship vacation, unfortunately. I was very active during the trip and very hungry at meal times so I fell of...
