    Staying the Course -- 6-12-2015

Hello Superbob and all...Superbob...glad you are getting an echo soon. At ten years out I think you would want yearly echos at minimum. I just read about a man who has had a porcine valve for 30 years. He got it at age 52. I thought that was very reassuring news. In addition to my daily walks...

    Staying the Course -- 6-5-2015

Sorry to read about the family medical issues, Superbob. Hope that you can find conservative solutions for both of you. Here on Fire Island (NY) it has been a wet and chilly Spring. The garden is looking good, but good beach weather has not arrived yet. Hopefully I'm finishing up with my...

    Staying the Course -- 5-28-2015

Did an exercise stress test as required by the cardiac rehab program I'm entering. Did well, made my target heart rate of 131 with no problems. Hope to start actual rehab sessions soon. As I may have written before, my 24 hour Holter was negative for Afib so my cardio said I could stop the amio...

    Staying the Course -- 5-21-2015

Superbob...I think I'm going to do at least some monitored rehab within the next month or so. The rehab requires a non-nuclear exercise stress test. I'm doing well by myself to a point, but I'd rather have an evaluation of my cardio-respiratory condition, combined with recommendations about how...

    Staying the Course -- 5-21-2015

Great idea and a fine new name for the weekly thread, Superbob! I got some great news today. My 24 hour Holter last week showed no rhythm problems, so my cardio told me I can drop amiodarone cold. He wants me on Warfarin for another three weeks as an extra precaution, then I can drop that too...

    Made my choice

I've been a certified scuba diver for 35 years. I questioned my surgeon about returning to diving post-op before he did my OHS. He said: "no restrictions." I have read accounts of others who have returned to diving post OHS.

Having surgery in 4 Days for an Ascending Aortic Aneurysm

Aneurysms are killers. When I had my AVR surgery in February, mine was 4.7 cm, but later my surgeon told me that the condition of the aortic tissue was not good...it was thin and he indicated that it would have probably dissected soon had he not replace it. Good luck with your surgery.

How long for On-X valve card?

"Yes it is important that you get a card and carry it in your billfold". What about tissue valves? Actually, my tissue valve (St. Jude "Trifecta") has a metal stent.

    Cooker's Throwdown Friday ... 5-8-15

Hope all went well with your surgeon, Tom. My last weigh in was 193.4 up a pound and change, Too many carbs, I guess. Like you, my attitude remains the same. I am doing a lot of walking. Next week I wear a Holter for a day (three months post-surgery. Hopefully I can get off the warfarin and...

    Cooker's Throwdown Friday .... 4-24-15

Down 0.8 lb..192.4 to 191.6....I'll take it. Recovery seems to be about complete at 8 weeks out. I think I'm as fit as I was before surgery. Now I want to see if i can go further and improve my cardio-vascular fitness as well as do some weight training (light weights, many reps) for strength...
